WTF RR: Murray vs Tsonga
« on: November 07, 2012, 08:06 PM »
Today Murray lost in a very close 3 setter which could have gone either way in my opinion. To certify his qualifacation through to the semi finals on Sunday he must beat no. 8 seed Jo Wilfried Tsonga.

As has been said on tie other thread, a win may not be necessary, and a loss may not be fatal.

A win might not be enough you know.

But surely it will increase his chances by about 20/1.

Berdych wins in 3. A lot more simpler now. Here we go:
As it stands:
1 Djokovic - 2-0 - 4/1
2 Murray - 1-1 - 3/3
3 Berdych - 1-1 - 3/3
4 Tsonga - 0-2 - 1/4
Murray and Djokovic win ->
qualifies 2nd
Murray wins in 2, Berdych wins in 2 ->
qualifies 1st
Murray wins in 2, Berdych wins in 3 ->
qualifies 2nd
Murray wins in 3, Berdych wins in 2 ->
doesn't qualify
Murray wins in 3, Berdych wins in 3 ->
qualifies 2nd
Murray loses in 2 ->
doesn't qualify
Murray loses in 3, Berdych wins ->
doesn't qualify
Murray loses in 3, Djokovic wins ->
qualifies 2nd
Quite simply - a straight sets win will guarantee qualification. A three set win would be all but enough, unless Berdych beats Djokovic in straight sets.
If Murray loses, he will still qualify if he wins a set and Djokovic beats Berdych.

Bottom line is, even with 2 wins, djokovic could still be going home, so in my mind we can forget about todays match, it's all about friday now and how Andy plays against Tsonga, if andy wins in 2 then he's fine, and then he can think about his last 2 matches of the year

Thank you very much TMH!It's all SO complicated!I remember last year I couldn't get my head around it at all,but then given what happened with Andy I didn't really need to,you know?Didn't care enough to puzzle it out if it wasn't gonna be Andy. Can't really remember whether or not I've managed to figure it out other years-certainly not well!Does it make me really stupid that every single year I have to go and try and get my head around it again?Lol!Ah well, can't be good at everything...
It's actually looking more positive than I'd thought.Right Andy,a nice uncomplicated win over JW please.(Sorry JW-normally I like you quite a lot.But not when you're up against Mr. M.)

Madhatter thanks for the summary. Great stuff!
Am I right in thinking Joker has already qualified. If so a definite danger he will take his foot off the pedal and lose in straights. And he much rather Berditch qualified than Andy so Andy really has to win in 2 otherwise we will be biting our nails. I wonder which match is played first?

Djokovic can still go out if he loses in straight sets and Murray wins in straight sets.
For him to tank in order for Murray to miss out, it would result in Berdych topping the group. Would Djokovic risk a clash with Federer just to knock Murray out? I can't see it. I think he'll put his all in regardless.

Christ almighty, you can see why RR was scrapped from the rest of the calendar.

Can't see Nole tanking for any reason, if he wins every match he doubles his prize money. Andy will beat Tsonga in 2 sets and go through.
If he doesn't I will give up chocolate until Christmas. Promise.

It's like a question from a maths exam "If player A wins one match but loses the second, whilst player B loses his first match but wins his second and both drop a set, who will qualify". Second question - Roger Federer always gets a favourable draw - discuss...........

Is going to be a tough match against tsonga, i think is better that the french doesnt have any chance to qualify, so he is not going to be at his best vs murray, i guess
