We're not talking about the same Elizabeth, I just realised - I was talking about the Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. I mistakenly referred to her as Elizabeth I - my royal knowledge is shoddy.
Glad we got that sorted out.

Erm .... no. Her sister was Bloody Mary (Mary I). Mary Queen of Scots is a cousin of Elizabeth I and Mary I.
So true.

She was Queen for 15 odd years, wasn't she? Hopefully George will be able to enlighten us.
Not sure I trust his info after he thought Mary Tudor was also Mary Queen of Scots.

She was George VI's consort. He was King. She only found herself in this position when Edward VIII abdicated.
Ahhh thought it might have something to do with her not being a proper queen, like coz she married in. Like how the Duke of Edinburgh isn't King.

Right a Monarch King can make his wife “Queen”, but a Monarch Queen cannot make her husband “King”.

On the other hand, as the law stands, younger male children are higher in the order of succession then older females!
However, I suppose if it ever makes a difference in the future, they'll change the law.
The interesting thing will be if Camille will take the title of Queen or not. I don't think she will.

She'd have a bloody nerve to! No, I don't think she would. It's such a shame that their love was thwarted for tradition, and even more so the suffering Diana went through. Nuts in this day and age....

She said she wouldn’t when they married. Just to reduce the controversy!!

Yes, well, I don’t like to hurt Hazel’s feelings in her absence, but, it’s the bloody bigoted Church poking it’s five eggs in again, saying Kingly type people are not allowed to marry divorcees cos’ God don’t like it and they’re Defender’s of the Faith. Wotta loada rubbish!! True Love should never be denied ....

Yeah, it was pretty nasty.

Yeah, it was pretty nasty.
It is quite nuts. Margaret drank herself to death, because she wasn't allowed to marry Peter Townsend. Charles had to be seen to be marrying a pure virgin, which messed them both up in the end. Silly... and most certainly not worth anyone's life.....

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Elizabeth I’s dad was Henry VIII. Her mum was Anne Boleyn. No Scottish blood. Her big sister Mary was made Queen of Scots, but her dad was Henry VIII (English). Her mum was Cathrine of Aragon (Spanish). Yamor was right. James II was Scottish, and reigned after Elizabeth I. It was my “period” for A level History. I got an “A”.
How the hell did you get an 'A' George?
Quackers is right. Mary, Queen of Scots, was Eliz I's cousin. Her father was James V of Scotland and her son, the offspring of Mary and the English Lord Darnley, was James VI of Scotland and I of England, who married Anne of Denmark. Charles I was James's second son but was heir to the throne after his older brother Henry died. He married Henrietta Maria of France. Then we get on to Charles II, James II, etc ...
The present Queen is half-Scottish (through her mother, who was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, an old Scottish family)
