Alex Slabinsky
« on: July 22, 2008, 12:36 AM »
Slabba needs a thread, given the improvements he has made in the past 12 months. In June last year he was ranked 943, but finished the year 408, due to some strong performances in November and December: a Challenger semi in Shrewsbury and a Futures semi and title in Nigeria. He has continued his progress this year and after his win today he has provisional broken into the top 300 at 299.
He needs two more wins this week in the Russian Challenger he is playing in order to make the cut for the US qualies. Even if he fails, he should make it for the Aus Open next year, where hopefully he can break the top 200, and go deep in a couple of Challengers.

He'll have to defend some big points from the end of the year though...

I saw Slabba in Manchester. Not playing, he sat near me whilst watching a match.

Which match was he watching? I saw him at Wimbledon when I was watching the match before him and Eaton playing the Bryans, he came to watch for a bit then went back to the locker room once it was nearly over.
Today he plays Ebden at about 3 UK time to get within 1 win of the US Open

Slabba loses, so just Boggo and Goodal are in, with Bloomers and Jonny Marray having a chance if many people withdraw.

He'll become GB number 4 next week after reaching his 2nd challenger QF of the year.
He plays GB number 3, Josh Goodall, next.
