And the new GB captain is...

...Leon smith! Andy's former coach between the ages of 11-16. source:

Good choice? Bad choice? Discuss!
I personally think this is a good choice, Murray seemed to think smith was a good coach. But maybe by using one of his former coachs this is a method of persuasion to get murray to play in the next davis cup tie?

He'll be judged on results, but I think it's an astute appointment.

It's all down to the players. The only real benefit from perspective is that you'd think Murray would be more inclined to play Davis Cup now since they know each other well.

I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

This was inevitable.

I'm not getting this. At the end of the day, who cares who the Davis Cup coach is. What difference does it make who the coach is? e.g. Take the Spanish Team .... do they play better because they have a coach? Doubt it. Just take a handful of great players and toss them out there and victory is guaranteed. The UK Davis Cup losses are nothing to do with lack of a good coach, but more to do with lack of good players.

Correct. It's like replacing the kettle when the whole house needs a rewire.

I totally agree, the whole system is rotten from top to bottom. But Lloyd was not getting the best out of the players he had available, that is for certain.

What they really need to do is take huge gobs of LTA money (there must be oodles of that), build as many indoor courts as they can throughout the country and go from there. People don't want to play tennis outdoors - especially in Scotland where there is very often a stiff wind and rain/mist/sleet/slop!

Judy Murray had it spot on, instead of one centralised building, it should have been de-centralised, with hundreds of indoor facilities being built across the country. Indoor courts are brilliant.

the LTA was keen to promote a candidate who did not have a "celebrity" tag
Well, I'd say they'd succeeded because I've never heard of him
. Anyways, that policy might work out, who knows.

He coached Andy during his formative years, there's a video of Andy as a 12 year old on the BBC site and Leon is seen hitting with him.
