She got a year's suspension by the Beligian Federation or such like for missing drugs tests and had to withdraw. She appealled the suspension and it got overturned but Tennis Australia decided against giving her a main draw wildcard.

Why did her ranking stay the same? And if she's back on the tour, shouldn't she be back on the proper tour, and recieving main draw entries?

She didn't have any ranking points coming off between her getting the ban and the ban getting overturned.

She was in the main draw in Auckland last week and she didn't drop a set in the draw. It's just the AO organisers decided not to give her a wildcard into the main draw.

I still don't really understand why she would have needed a wildcard entry for the main draw, why didn't she just get direct entry?

Because she pulled out (either voluntary or was forced to) because of the pending suspension.
