Daniel Evans

It's nearly as exciting as when Murray broke through. Except you just have that nagging doubt that he might go back to the lager and the kebabs.

Plays Bradley Klahn, ranked 147. Have you ever seen a more linear rankings history?

Ha. I had never heard of him until he got a WC for the US Open last year (and subsequently beat Melzer in a five set thriller). 22yo just out of college I think - clearly very talented and rising quite steadily. Made two challenger finals last month actually (losing them both). Top 100 a real possibility for Klahn by the year end. Both players going for their first Challenger title of the year.

Too true. Does he even have a coach yet? Amazing that he's not even funded by the LTA. Really needs someone to keep him true and help him (continue to) improve. I'm not sure if this recent surge in form is down to an improvement in his game or entirely down to his mentality.

Either way, long may it last.

Won first set 6-3, had championship point at 5-4*, then had *4-3 in the 'breaker but threw it away with a series of tame UEs to lose the set.

6-3, 6-7 now. For the second week Dan has had championship point and lost the set. I fear it will end up going the exact same way.

Evans again clearly more talented. If he loses this one in the same fashion as last week, he'll go mental.

Gutted for him.  Really hope he can take positives and keep going.  He will be British no 2 now though.  Lta/ Leon need to give encouragement

I literally have no idea how he managed to throw that away.

Dan lost 6-0, 1-6, 7-5 in an absolute heartbreaker, having lead 4-1 in the third and had championship points on Pospisil's serve at 5-4*.

I watched this in the middle of the night in France. Was pleased to see I was in good company

Very encouraging start. Very winnable R2 against Flavio Cipolla as well (anyone remember him? Andy beat him in his first match after winning the Olympics), who has had a pretty poor 2012.
