He's got Stevie Johnson (USA) first round

Excellent comeback.

The most pleasing thing about this (asides from Kyle qualifying for a slam for the first time!) is how he not just lasted he distance, but outlasted his much more experienced opponent. Too many times last year would he seem to run out of steam in the third set after two long opening sets. Seems to have worked hard on his stamina in the off-season.

Decent draw that, although I was half-hoping he'd get Andy.

Brilliant result considering the partisan crowd. I just hope his lapse in concentration at 5-3 doesn't end up hurting him for his 1st round match.

Wow! Already up to 176 in the provisional rankings. If he beats Johnson, he'll be inside the top 150. Kyle is making his move.

How did Johnson get to be ranked inside the top 40 and be US number 3 without him troubling my radar? Do you know much about him, Luke?

Johnson's a pretty talented guy, from what I can gather he came through the college programme in America and was actually either unbeaten throughout his time or suffered very little losses as I can remember when he got a WC into the US Open for the first time a few years ago and one of the commies mentioned something along those lines. He's quite a flat hitter of the ball with a lot of pace and from what I can remember of him from Delray Beach last year where I think he reached the quarterfinals, he's quite quick on his feet too.

Same as me to be honest, thought he was still in the 60s. I remember him making his breakthrough when he got a WC at the USO a few years back just out of college. Seems to have progressed steadily since then and is still rising. Never seen him play though so can't really offer any insight. I probably know more about Murray's opponent to be honest, oddly enough.

Johnson won 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Seems that in the first two sets pretty much all games went to 30-30, with Kyle just unable to break whilst Johnson created (and took) far more break points. A decent effort, all things considered.
