Well the fairytale run is over.

What a result though, great to have a female player pushing for a slam.

Let us us hope for a good year injury free. She has few points to defend so a top twenty position is possible?

Great on court attitude is so refreshing.  She has played well.

Great on court attitude is so refreshing.  She has played well.

She has virtually no points from the first six months so a lot to gain if this form can be maintained.

The majority of her points come from Eastbourne QF, two ITF tournaments she won in Canada in July/August, the US Open R4, and her run in Asia.

Jo sounds very levelled headed. When she lost two matches right at the beginning of the year she looked for positive things in those matches, and said the matches had been good matches to play in terms of time on court, hitting a lot of balls etc. Fantastic run in Melbourne and a lot of confidence to take away from that.

I had to go to bed shortly after the second set began, simply shagged after staying up for Andy the night before. I thought she would probably lose. She was definitely nervous. But I was very impressed by how she pulled herself together after losing the first three games of the first set, two of them on her own serve, and won the next four in a row. She had found her game and was hitting great deep, wide shots, pulling Kerber from side to side. Kerber looked quite shocked. I think the pressure got to Jo in the end, plus Kerber is such a backboard, Mary Jo F and Pam Shriver commentating pointed out frequently that when you play her, every time you think you've put it away and the point's over, she manages to get it back and you have to keep going. Playing her demands lots of patience and/or big power so you can get the ball away from her. Jo really did manage that for a while but couldn't keep it up.

I like Konta and I like Kerber a lot, so this result was a win/win for me. Great job Jo. You've proven your metal.

Great run and no shame in losing to a top 10 player in the semi final. Saves having to go through the soul destroying obliteration from Serena like everyone else too. Hope this sparks the beginning of her career and there are many more performances like this.
