Sharapova was so utterly poor, but Heather did well today, a lot of positives to take from that, she'll go further than Robson ever will, imo.

Why isn't this thread active? She's going toe-to-toe with Masha!
Well done Heather. Taking the 1st and the 2nd was tight.

I fully expect Heather and Laura to both battle it out for the British number 1 around the top 50 in the coming years.

Yep, Sharapova is such a manufactured player. Almost talentless. And that screaming is to the point of ridiculous. Watson is our biggest prospect.

Love her to pieces. Much better mover than Laura. She's had bad luck in two slams now. Wimbledon injured, now Maria first round.
Good luck in Australia Heather

Women's tennis usually holds little appeal, but that was a cracking match with both players going all-out.
Heather's only problem is the lack of a killer shot.

All credit to Heather for not allowing MS to intimidate her like she likes to do. Didn't watch final set but thought Heather played very well even though MS clearly not on form. I liked Andy's tweet about Heather's performance.

Apparently Heather didn't hear any noise from Sharapva.

Suggests she was really focused. While the microphones might amplify the shreaks, impossible to believe they could not be heard the other side of the net.

Heather is doing well in her follow up tournament in Quebec.
R2: WATSON, Heather (GBR) 107 beat (5) ARVIDSSON, Sofia (SWE) 77 7-5 6-3
QF: WATSON, Heather (GBR) 107 v PASZEK, Tamira (AUT) 3 40
She served 77% last night, with 6 aces.
Whilst clearly not a big server, she placed her first serves well. But only won 29% behind her second serve.
I look at Li Na and Sam Stosur as long term blueprints for her serve. They are, officially, only 2 cm's taller than Heather. However, their physique is considerably more muscular, whereas Heather is quite slight (to be expected for a 19yr old). So if Heather, like Andy always states in his pressers, gets stronger, that will go some way towards helping.
And a special mention again to her speed and agility as when she was bp down trying to serve for the match, she played a point where she was practically out of the rally for 7 shots or something but kept retrieving the ball and then found a moment to pounce herself. Well done.
Pasek got to Wimby quartes and is somewhat of a pocket rocket herself. She gets a whole day to recover, so fatigue should not be a problem. Would be superb if Heather could win--first ever wta tour semi.
