I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Lucky loser, a bye and then a top guy he's beaten before. It's James's week. $16k, too - minimum.

I understand that, but what I was thinking was he has the talent and ability surely to get into the top 100 at least, and has shown he can beat top 100 players. His DC performances must have flagged him up and made him a candidate for the Dubai Wild Card. The main tour matches have more points attached, so wining a few first round matches in those sort of tournaments helps shift him up the rankings quicker. That brings more experience and more money, which must help him with his motivation for the day to day slog.  yes

So why do you think he's not in the top 100, and not playing main tour rather than challengers? Not trying hard enough? Not interested?

That overhead smash by Lopez was probably the worst seen anywhere in the last 20 years.

I don't know the answer to that. Hopefully he can now build on his recent successes and can make that push into the top hundred. It's sort of a reverse frustration. In DC when he is playing for his country he seems to be able to pull off some spectacular feats. It would be good if he could start to do it for himself as well. Perhaps it's confidence?

A bit of history between Wardy and Feli if Barry Cowan is to be believed.
I assume he's referring to their only previous meeting, when Lopez retired with Ward about to serve for the match.

Ward is very inconsistent. Such is the case for many players in that 100-200 ranking bracket. It's the reason he's never been higher than #137 and the reason he'll probably never break the top 100. Unless of course he improves his consistency as he gets into the twilight of his career. Hell, at 27 he's a relative youngster compared to 33yo Victor Estrella who broke the top 100 for the first time last week.
