winning in final would get him into top 300's
losing about 320

comparing that to year start it is a huge step rising 50-70 places Smile

Lost 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-0. Frown

Raced into a 5-1 lead, got pipped back, won 7 points in a row in the tie-break. Had opportunities in the second set but Crivoi hung on and then broke at the death, and from the sounds of it Kyle ran out of steam.

Still up about 55 places in two weeks.

A year ago he had to come through four rounds of qualifying in these two tournaments and picked up just 2 points. This year he's gone 9-1 in them and picked up 28.

Hmm, is he ready for DC? Will have four days off to recover but it's going to be a big step up. Think Leon might go with Ward (if he's fit).

Running out of steam in 3 sets ? Not sure he's ready for 5 sets in DC.

He's played 10 matches in 12 days, a couple of them over 3 hours long.

Back in action this week and has just made the SFs in Zagreb $15k, coming from 3-5 down in the second set. This tournament is worth 27 points instead of the usual 18. Kyle will get at least 8 points for making the SFs. Plays the top seed next!

QF: (4) Kyle Edmund WR 319 beat (5) Maxim Dubarenco (MDA) WR 332 by 3 & 5
SF: (4) Kyle Edmund WR 319 v (1) Uladzimir Ignatik (BLR) WR 282 (CH 137 a year ago)

Should return pretty close to his CH (307) after this, and if he can pull off the upset he might just about break the top 300 (would be touch and go).

Accidentally posted it in the other thread but Kyle beat Ignatik 7-6, 7-6 and just beat 19yo Filip Veger (less than a month older than him) 6-2, 7-5 to claim the title. Very Happy

Kyle will now rise into the top 280 and is 14-2 for the year (the defeats being to Pospisil (WR 25) and Crivoi (WR 238)).

Well done to @kyle8edmund  for winning his first indoor hard court future. Just broken in top 300. pic.twitter.com/L5n9qd00at

That was Kyle's 2nd $15k title, 5th of his career and 1st title off clay.

Now has a WC into Marseille next week and will face Tobias Kamke (WR 86).

Dodig beat Olivetti 7-5 6-2, Edmund and Kamke playing in about 5-10 minutes. Winner will play Dodig.

Kamke wins 5&1.

Edmund had chances in the first set - Kamke saving four break points and Edmund not facing any until 4-4, but the German's experience eventually wore through and once he got the first break he really started to dominate.

Time for Kyle to step up to some Challengers. He's been looping around all over the place so far (ATP to Futures to Davis Cup to Futures to ATP...) so hopefully now he can start to test himself more regularly at the challenger level.

Interesting insight from Bob who was at the match:

Quote
As for Kyle, it seems many of you saw the match on live stream, so I don't need to give a running commentary. My take was that the 1st set was an opportunity missed. For much of the set, Kyle matched or bettered Kamke in nearly all departments. Unfortunately, when it came to the BPs (5 in all), he seemed to panic and rush things a bit. A bit more experience and a bit more patience in those situations and I am sure he would have won the set. And as Steven noted, a hawk eye overrule on a DF at 30-40 for Kamke, when Kyle had hit a pretty decent return as well, may have been a turning point. Kamke made his 1st serve on the replayed point and went on to hold.

For me, the other area where Kamke was stronger was attacking the second serve. Perhaps it is more the case that Kyle's 2nd serve needs to improve. Greg mentioned afterwards that he would like to see more variety to keep the opponent guessing.

Unfortunately towards the end of the 1st set, Kyle began to lose rhythm completely on his serve and to be honest, he never got it back. This problem with the serve put pressure on the rest of his game and Kamke ran out an easy winner in the end. Kamke was very complimentary about Kyle in his post match interview, talking about all the BPs he had to save and openly admitted that he could easily have lost that set.

Kyle's time will undoubtedly come and there was enough evidence in that 1st set to see that he is not far away. But you can only gain experience over time and some runs in challengers may be the order of the day.
