Naomi Broady, currently ranked 224, has won her first round in Birmingham 6-3 6-4, defeating Ajla Tomljanovic ranked 79. She'll play Halep next.

Well done to 16 year old Katie Swan who beat 118 ranked Kristina Kucova in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying.

Impressive Smile

Swan is a really bright prospect. Will be interesting to watch her climb up the rankings over the coming years.

It was Katie Dunne who nearly got disqualified. She double faulted and then in frustration I guess hit a ball away and in the process accidentally hit a line judge with the ball. The supervisors were called and after deliberation they allowed her to continue. I'm not sure but she possibly got an 'abuse of the ball' warning/violation.

Bit more on Dunne from someone who was at the game:

It's why she lost the 2nd set IMO.  Was quite a wait while a decision was made with Katie with her head buried in her towel.  When she was given the all clear to play again, her opponent did not rise from the chair but insisted on the ref coming to the court to speak to her in person, meaning Katie was still hanging around looking worried sick and almost tearful.  Katie apologised to the line judge instantly the ball hit her and the official laughed and said she was fine.  Understandably, Katie had zero focus in the next few games.

Another brilliant win for Jo  yay
And Good Luck Heather, will need it against the very talented Sloane. However, 1-1 so she certainly has a chance thumb up

So Jo set two new CHs this week (and today's win would've been a CH before her two previous wins as well), taking our WR 34, WR 8 and WR 20 respectively to make the QFs.

Incredible week in her home tournament. Plays 18yo Bencic in the QFs.

Heather went down 2&3.

Unfortunately Tara, Katy and Katie all lost their QR2 matches in Wimbledon too, although all three were playing higher ranked opponents.
