would be very nice to see him being able to use this as a launch pad to go further into the top 100. And nice for Andy too to have him there in the main draw alongside him.

A win in the first round would be enough to push him over that top 100 barrier for the first time. He's still teetering so agonisingly close at WR 101.

Wardy played an exho over in Kooyong <sp> against John Isner (scouting opponents for the Davis Cup Wardy? clever!)

Not only that, he won it!

James went down 2-6, 6-0, 7-6(6), 6-3.

A brilliant first set followed by a second set where he went completely off the rails. Recovered brilliantly and was a break up in the third before Verdasco fought back to take it a to a tie-break. James then had a set point at 6-5* but Verdasco saved with a big serve and went on to take it 8-6.

Pretty close match and could easily have gone the other way. A good effort though and James has once again showed he is capable of competing at this level (top 50).

Think James is entered for a few of the ATP events post-Australian Open. Currently 6th or 7th alt but that should come down over the next couple of weeks I imagine. Will probably make the main draw.

That will be good for James, and although he went down, a) he got a set of Verdasco b)it was close! Well done Wardy
