The Other British Men

Great picture of Olly!

Sad news about James Ward - he's a local boy for me - just this afternoon I went past the tennis courts he used to climb over the railings and fencing to practice on. I thought it was great that at the end of his 5 setter with Mardy Fish at Wimbledon, Fish sat down and told James to go out and enjoy the standing ovation -"it's for you, not me".

Yep, was a nice touch from Fish. It really is a huge shame for Ward, at Wimbledon he looked to be playing some of his best stuff. This was the last thing he needs. Frown

Meanwhile Baker is through to R2 after a near 3 hour marathon against Williams, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. I watched a stream but he lost every single point (getting broken both games) I watched it.. I would switch over and he would then start winning points again. He served for it at 5-3, got broken back, only to break Williams for the match next game anyway.

Jo Konta on court soon in the Women's Singles and Boggo will play on the same court, with one other match in-between.

Only just seen this - Fish has gone up in my estimation.

Josh Goodall has won yet another Futures event, in Wrexham this time.

Evans made the semis (losing to Josh), as did Fitzpatrick.

Golding and Edmund lost in R2 (to Fitzpatrick and Goodall respectively).

Any idea why he's not playing Colin?

Feel a bit sorry for Marray, really struggling to find a partner with Nielsen on the Singles tour and I don't think he's won a match since Wimbledon.

Saw they were in the QFs, forgot all about them after Andy's win against Djokovic! Great result.

Before the Olympics Colin decided to take this week off. Next week in Cincinnati, Colin and Ross will partner each other and Jonny will resume the partnership with Nielsen.

Ah cool, cheers. Hopefully Marray and Nielsen can carry on where they left off, although being a Masters it will be tough.

Thanks for that, hoping some of them will make it to O2 later.

Josh Goodall has broken the top 200 and is now the British #2. Baker has fallen back to #217 and Ward has fallen well down to around #260 after his ill-timed injury.

Good to get that update on th other aspirants. What happened to James Ward?

Last summer he reached 2 Challenger final (winning one of them) in 2 weeks. This year he was unable to defend those particular ranking points as he fractured his wrist after a fall while playing in Newport.
