There's been a change in the GB Davis Cup team for their Europe/Africa Zone Group I 2nd Round tie v Russia: Dan Evans is replacing Jamie Baker

A very difficult decision, but Leon Smith going with "a gut feeling".

No pressure Dan!

Good start from Evo, got broken at 2-3, broke back at 3-5 but lost 1st set 4-6.

3-3 in 2nd.

Neil Harman ‏@NeilHarmanTimes
Three break points saved by Tursunov in 5th game. Evans had a chance on one of them, just a touch tentative. 3-2

Stream cutting out a lot.

Evo had a set point at 5-4. Now tie-break time...

Evans takes the tie-break to level it up.

He really does play above himself in these ties. Why does he lack the same self-belief on the tour?

a) playing against each other can't be gr8
b) not necessarily your friends
c)some grotty hotel in Uzbekistan, far away from your family
d) not enough money for a support team
Of course if u turn into Andy Murray the rewards are huge but lower down I can see why football would be so  much more enticing.

He only plays against a couple of them. And the Brits all get on quite well, judging from twitter.

I can't remember the last time Evans played in Uzbekistan or any other obscure country. He seems to mostly play GB futures events and still often struggles. I doubt being lonely has anything to do with it. Just seems to lack the self-belief and Harman thinks he struggles with shot selection as well. It's a huge shame that the LTA cut his funding this year, ridiculous decision given his Davis Cup heroics.

For some odd reason, whenever I refresh that stream it takes me back to 2-2 in the third.

Guadeloupe last March it seems. Then he had some weird illness that kept him out for a couple of months. Then lost his funding.

This year's schedule has been a bit bizarre.

Found a weird Russian stream. This is hilarious.

'no no no no no!' every time Tursunov misses a shot.

Tursunov hits a shot that looks clearly out, doesn't get called. Evans then double faults, and from 40-0 up finds himself break point down.

Saves three break points, two with huge second serves (might explain why he's double faulted on BP so many times - just absolutely goes for it) and manages to hold for 5-4.
