Great Britain Davis Cup captain John Lloyd says Greg Rusedski will definitely be in his squad for next month's tie against the Netherlands.

Rusedski, 33, has slipped to 245 in the world rankings and last season hinted he could be on the brink of retirement.

But Lloyd persuaded him to compete in a Challenger level tournament this week ahead of the Netherlands tie in April.

Lloyd told BBC Sport: Greg is in the squad, definitely. He's someone I have a lot of faith in.

Well, that's good. It would have been really unfair if he hadn't gotten a place, after all that he's done. He could easily have given up like Tim did, but he was always there so he definitely deserves a place. And Lloyd's probably right, having been on the tour as long as Greg has you probably don't need that much time to find your game again.

Bad decision in my opinion.

Rusedski is out of practice and out of form and the Netherlands are a relative pushover so the fourth spot should have been used to blood a youngster: Auckland/Baker. Instead they will probably be thrown in at the deep end when we win and have to face a seriously strong nation while by then Rusedski will probably have retired.

He should have been used as an experienced hitting partner.

I don't understand why John is promising a spot to Greg, he's only played one match this year in competition (as far as I know) and that was this week in a Challenger in Sarajevo where he lost to Kenneth Carlson in straight sets.  He's definitely match rusty, it would have been better putting one of the younger guys in as Spud said.

I don't know why he's promised a spot either. Unless he's considering doing something funny with his doubles....... But I mean really, he has a realyl strong option with Andy Tim and Jamie. Sorry, Greg is a good player, but I think his DC tiem is up.

Probably because Greg just seems to play so consistently well at Davis Cup... he seems to up his form when playing for the country he represents. He also has huge experience which is important for events like these.

lol easy tiger.

More specifically, I was thinking of a random combination of A Murray and Tim singles, Rusedski/J Murray doubles (both lefties, just like Booray) ............
