For some reason, I have a fondness for any name that ends in "a", especially "ova"
e.g.  Svetlana Kuznetsova,  Maria Sharapova,  Elena Dementiva.
Hmm... they are all Russians !

Mmm there always some controversy over how those types of names are pronounced though.... SAFIN-a or saf-INA.... The womens draw was pretty special though this year, Caroline Wozniacki played Alesandro Wozniac... And there were three Anastasia's in a row! And a girl called Angelique.. icon_angel_not Wow what a name!

As far as I know, she prefers it pronounced as SAFIN-a.

Yeah, that's what I think, and what I heard some commentators discussing. Elena Dementieva is the worst I think, she's complained in public about it I think, in interviews and such.... And it always annoys me when on the radio they say safin-A... Her brother is SAFIN, why wouldn't she be SAFIN-a? lol And it got quite hard to do the pronunciations towards the end... Very Happy

Baltacha stays at 83 (how is this possible!?!)
O'Brien moves up 3 to 87
Robson moves up 154353432 places to 313!

For qualifying and reaching the 2nd round of a grand slam, women get 160 ranking points. For winning 2 main draw matches in a grand slam, without qualifying women also get 160 ranking points.

So therefore Bally successsfully defended the points she got last year. Smile

Winning 2 main draw matches is getting to the 3rd round.
