Tim Henman v David Ferrer (14)
« on: October 16, 2006, 09:55 PM »
Tim takes on Ferrer in the 2nd round in Madrid.
Here's the
head to head
They have never met before.
Another tough match, although tim breezed through the first one....
Still I'll be cautious. Tim in 3.

Andy beat this guy, but there was no way that Ferrer was playing 100% throughout. Whenever Ferrer stepped it up- Andy struggled.
Fast surface will benefit Tim. Tim in 3 aswell.

I agree that Tim haven't played Ferrer before is odd, Tim been around for so long and I though he would have played against Ferrer at least once.

Beeb have commentary of this match - getting there, but need coverage!
Currently 2-1 to Tim (on serve) but you know how far behind the commentary can be!
From the beeb:
Henman 1-1 Ferrer
Ferrer shows Henman how it's done as he beats down first serve after first serve. However, after reaching 40-0 he twice finds the net off Henman returns and the Briton then takes it to deuce courtesy of a net cord. All of a sudden Ferrer is relying on second serves, but two deep passing shots force Henman errors and the Spaniard holds a messy game.
Henman 1-0 Ferrer
An immediate warning for Henman, as he is forced to field three break points in the opening game. Two blistering forehand passes down the line take Ferrer to 40-30, but Henman staves off the break when the Spaniard hits a pass long off the Briton's second serve. After saving another at advantage, Henman finally finds a first serve on his third break point down and eventually sees the game out with two fine approach shots. A crucial hold one feels.

Henman 2-1 Ferrer
Against Verdasco on Monday, Henman's serve was at it's best. Here, he can barely buy a first serve and, as a result, Ferrer is able to dominate points. Still, a second serve ace earns his game point and, not for the first time, Ferrer sends a return long to keep it on serve.
Well Tim broke Ferrer to love the very next game but his serve is letting him down again in this next game where he needs to consolidate his break!
Currently 30-30 in the 5th game
Tim!
40-30 to Tim now!

From the beeb:
Henman 4-1 Ferrer
Any thought that the break would force Ferrer into his shell are ended as two cross-court forehands take it to 0-30. Still, Henman is on a role in recent weeks and after Ferrer sends another pass long, the Briton makes it 30-30 with a superb sliced backhand from wide of the court. Two more kick serves force Ferrer errors and Henman consolidates the break.
Henman 3-1 Ferrer
Ferrer's first serve is called out by umpire Carlos Bernardes, prompting Henman to take a time-out to establish the rules of the 'challenge' system. You'd think he'd know before he stepped on court wouldn't you? Still, he obviously liked what he heard as he takes the game against serve to love. The 'Tiger' advances to the net on every Ferrer serve and the Spaniard struggles to cope, earning the Briton an early break
Oh, I wish I could see this! 2 channels here showing the same thing and it ain't tennis!
