Mine too - that's why I chose this video.  Even the tune alone, especially when played by a solitary bagpiper, has a wonderfully moving, haunting quality.

I have a feeling I posted similar verses last year on the Religious Discussions thread, so if I'm being repetitive then I apologise...but it bears repeating Smile

Isaiah 9:2-9 (New International Version, ©2010)

 2 The people walking in darkness
   have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
   a light has dawned.

3 You have enlarged the nation
   and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
   as people rejoice at the harvest,
as warriors rejoice
   when dividing the plunder.

4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat,
   you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
   the bar across their shoulders,
   the rod of their oppressor.

5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle
   and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
   will be fuel for the fire.

6 For to us a child is born,
   to us a son is given,
   and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
   Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
   Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
   there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
   and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
   with justice and righteousness
   from that time on and forever.

The zeal of the LORD Almighty
   will accomplish this.

Amazing verses that I was using for my Sunday school class today Very Happy We made advent wreaths and remembered of the hope, joy, love and peace that Jesus birth brings yay

The church wasn't exactly packed this morning...foot access only with all the snow. However, the kids had a great time and I had a brilliant snowball fight lol though regretted it by the time I got home Very Happy

Certainly recognise this verse from Handel's Messiah - in my opinion, unarguably the most amazingly powerful musical work ever composed, so powerful in fact that I can only listen to small sections at a time.  Once listened to it in its entirety and it truly blew my mind.

Was thinking of this song just now and so thought I'd post a link for it Smile

This verse fits with what it says about the God I believe in Very Happy

Zephaniah 3:17 (New International Version, ©2011)

17 The LORD your God is with you,
   the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
   in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
   but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Glad this matter's been raised because I've been wondering about him too.  I enjoyed all his comments on the tennis threads.  He posted so regularly and then, just before, Beijing, he suddenly stopped.  All very strange.  Just hope he's OK as he was a delightful, polite young man - unlike some on here!

This was what our sermon was on at church yesterday, talking all about fear and the different kinds we experience. Really spoke to me, epecially concerning fear of the future and of circumstances in life from which it seems you can't escape. I love the Psalms, there always seems to be one that captures my current mood of feeling and word it so much better than I can Smile

Psalm 56[a]

    For the director of music. To the tune of “A Dove on Distant Oaks.” Of David. A miktam. When the Philistines had seized him in Gath.

 1 Be merciful to me, my God,
   for my enemies are in hot pursuit;
   all day long they press their attack.
2 My adversaries pursue me all day long;
   in their pride many are attacking me.

 3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
 4 In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
   What can mere mortals do to me?

 5 All day long they twist my words;
   all their schemes are for my ruin.
6 They conspire, they lurk,
   they watch my steps,
   hoping to take my life.
7 Because of their wickedness do not[c] let them escape;
   in your anger, God, bring the nations down.

 8 Record my misery;
   list my tears on your scroll[d]—
   are they not in your record?
9 Then my enemies will turn back
   when I call for help.
   By this I will know that God is for me.

 10 In God, whose word I praise,
   in the LORD, whose word I praise—
11 in God I trust and am not afraid.
   What can man do to me?

 12 I am under vows to you, my God;
   I will present my thank offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered me from death
   and my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before God
   in the light of life.

Our pastor talked about fear yesterday also. Just how irrational it is.One word ,one look,one comment can be tied up in our heart for a long time thanks to that insidius spirit.
Faith came singing into my room,all other guests took flight,fear anxiety and gloom fled into the night.I wondered how such things could be ,when faith said gently don't you see .Not one of them can live  with me.
That's a little poem my Mum used to recite to me when i was fearful of something.

I like it yes

For some reason when I read that I just thought of the words to Amazing Grace Very Happy Fear is such a constraint to us and the words just came to me Smile

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

That to me is selfish, spiteful and unchristian and completely contradicts Matthew 5:44 where Christ says - "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you."
