I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Ever had a great money-making idea? Want to road-test it? All ideas posted here have a sort of honorary patent, i.e. he or she who posts the idea first can claim copyright on it, or can at least be seriously miffed if someone else nicks it.

OK, so here's Monkey Cars.

You buy a load of old cars - reasonably presentable cars that run OK but don't cost you more than a grand or so each. Then you set up shop next door to a safari park. You can then hire out your old cars to safari park visitors who want to see the monkeys without damaging the family car (and who leave their own car as collateral).

Thoughts? Is this a service you'd use? How much would you pay?

I ran it past my wife. When she'd stopped wetting herself, she told me that the insurance would be ridiculously expensive - £200k or more.

I like the idea of this thread, I think it should also apply to non-business projects as well.

I was having a conversation with Amy on the forum the other week and it sparked a project idea for me which I've been working on recently, it's the first website of its kind but it's a secret for now because I'm not sure if it will be a success.

I do sometimes have random ideas so when they come to me, I'll post in here.

How about a food purpose hair dryer for thawing a very small area. Want to cut a frozen pizza or block of butter in half? Easy.

That's the trouble. If you post a good idea here, it'll get nicked. For the same reason, it's also difficult to do market research and focus groups.

My wife also had a good idea concerning Marmite. I looked into it and found that it could take up to four years to get a patent.

Honestly, where's the incentive?

I'm going to be devastated if someone steals my food hair dryer idea.

The hair dryer that feeds you, or the hair dryer you can eat? I love dual-purpose stuff.

My friend and I have started a film company. We started casting our first major film and are choreographing the fight scene for a mini film to debut on July 16th. Also, I've been watching a lot of SNL season 1 lately and have felt inspired by these short films that they put out. At first glance they're very silly and a little pointless, but I thought about them and realized that each of them has a meaning to the director that filmed it, and that I can respect.

A few years ago, I set up a website and book business. It was essentially Internet marketing. You write a book review in the press that directs readers to your website, where they can order the book.

I had it all set up. I had the website, the bulk-buy deals with the publishers, the go-ahead from the media. Even had a great name for the business - Book Now. Unfortunately, I forgot to factor in postage costs, which effectively made it a loss-making enterprise.

Spectacularly stupid.

That would've been a fun job. I like anything to do with books. That's basically a brilliant idea. Unfortunate about the postage though.

Lately I've wanted to start my own bike messenger service...

Not in particular, but I know I can write dialog and screenplays as I've been writing comic books for several years now. Writing, no drawing for me... :P But anyways, I took an art appreciation class in college, and not only did that open my eyes to the depth of art and its inherent anatomy, but it also made me realize that film must be very similar. I've been picking apart different writing and directing styles for about a year now and I think I'm ready to try my hand at it. I've been reading up on a lot of it in my spare time. Edgar Wright is basically my hero...
