It's amazing just how choppy the water in the Bay can be ... people get good sailing there.

No, because we had done plenty of research on the whole trip and knew we would see them several times, not just here but at Newport and at the Sea Lion Cave, although they weren't there at the time we visited. We were told they had gone AWOL so I didn't make the long walk down to the cave.

It was a beautiful hot day when we 'did' SF and the sea was not too choppy fortunately 'cos Os is a terrible sailor. We loved SF but American cities are not amongst our favourite things to see over there. We prefer the scenery and the history. Hope the photos brought back some memories for you. Our tour of the city was very comprehensive but I need Os to down his 2 meg photos so that I can deal with them - my favourite spot was Mount St Helens, but then it would be. Volcanoes and everything to do with them are my 'thing', hence our trip to Sicily a few years ago to explore the slopes of Etna which is very easy by car.

They're the greatest.  Apart, that is, from the Sea Otters.  Next time you go, go down to Carmel, sit in one of the glassfronted restaurants which jut out - used to be "Old Cannery Row", look out the window and right below you is the Pacific and you'll see the Sea Otters diving in amonst the kelp for Abalone ... they come up to the surface, float on their backs, whack the Abalone with a rock and eat the contents ... just fabulous way to spend a Sunday brunch.

Here's a pic of several floating ...

How did I KNOW you would say that ...  shocking lol  Because I said EXACTLY the same thing to Jan.  However, I did not use the word "oldies", but was polite and said "mature" .... you're a baddie whip lol
highfive

Is it OK, Mark, it is just an offshoot really from the Getting to know you thread - we all seemed to chat away on there. It's for anyone really not just oldies and I intend to put some of my American holiday things on here if that is in order
I just want to try and avoid confusion that's all, usually two topics that are the same are merged. I'll leave it for now and see how it goes.

Love the Sea Otters Daisy - I've watched Scottish (Isle of Mull) otters do much the same thing - they are smaller of course but just as delightful.

Naah! We watched them near our hotel on Loch Scridain, Mull on a beautiful June day - think I went on to break my ankle a couple of days later (in a pub car park would you believe!) I had to go to Paisley hospital and they flew me off in this tiny plane - it was so exciting - Highlands and Islands in a beautiful panorama.

How did you manage to break an ankle in a pub carpark ... it's not like it's littered with rabbit holes.  On the other hand .... Mull ... you never know ... lol

It was at the Bellacroy nr Dervaig - lovely pub - but their car park was gravelled and it filled in holes - into one of which I put my foot. I only had light shoes on as I had been driving - walking boots and I'd just have fallen with no breakage. They carried me into the pub, sent for the local medic who took me to Salen where there is a lovely little hospital - but they reckoned it would need pinning so off to Glasgee I went.

Three days later, Yes. I had to wait a day or so for the op - had a lovely staff nurse on the ward - she complained bitterly because I had to wait so long but the ankle was also dislocated and they had to put it back in first - they did it at about midnight - just gave me a shot - the staff nurse came with me - Annie her name was - she was a nurse in the true sense of the word and we were laughing about something when the doc actuallly put it in place and I didn't feel it - strange isn't it! I waited a day from there for the op and Os picked me up the next day. He stayed in a nearby B &B recommended by the hospital.  Thanks for chatting - enjoyed it muchly but I must away to get a roast ready for younger daughter who is coming for her usual Wednesday dinner.  I'll do a bit more America soon, need Os to size some more photos for me. See ya!
