Put it this way, it slows down your computer - Mark can probably explain it using more terminology.

Not that it matters now as you have CCleaner but I stick by what I said from the start, the Run button can be found in the Start Menu, here is the proof: lol

If it doesn't show for you like the above images then someone has been customising your Windows.
OK Mark.  Will do.  Think you're right about my Windows being customised by somebody else, i.e. my computer man who installed Windows 7 (Ultimate, as it happened).  Almost everything on the Start Menu has been changed from what it was on Windows Vista Home Basic.  I didn't tell him what to do, just trusted him to get on with the job.

One small problem, though, about CCleaner.  After I ran it I discovered I'd lost some settings.  Minor stuff and easily rectified, but should this have happened?

Not sure if you mean settings... As part of the clean up, you can lose login details for website, browsing history and document history (like the last document you opened being shown on your start menu).

Is that what you were referring to?

You can uncheck the box for browser related cleaning so it doesn't do it again.

Mark - sorry, it's me again - but for the past week or so, sometimes when I've painted text either in order to copy and save it, or to delete it, both in the quick and main reply boxes, the options box comes up but my screen freezes and I end up losing the whole blinking lot!  For example, tonight I lost a response to James on the Sociology thread which had taken me over an hour to think up and type. grr  Obviously the answer is to save text in lengthy posts more frequently, so's I don't lose too much, but it's still going to be a problem.

Again this only happens on MW, but if it's of any help to you, the relevant window on the taskbar (and I'm now Windows 7) shows yellow/orange and I'm unable to delete it, because when I right click to get the "close window" option, the window starts blinking, and I end up having to click on another window or go to the Start Menu and click on IE in order to get back into MW.  The only way I can get rid of these yellow windows is by shutting down or restarting the computer.  My W7 manual isn't any help here.
