The main thing to remember is that what ever uni you go to you will have a brilliant time! cmon yeah It's just important to know what kind of person you are... 4 of my close friends went to Oxbridge, they hardly see each other and say the stress level is like the day before an exam but every day which I know I couldn't handle. Uni can shape the person you develop into and for me it was about finding a brand new social, fun, lively city. The likes of St Andrews and Oxford don't offer enough of that for me. Smile
Awww god, well I'll make sure I keep in contact with my friend, he's quite perceptive so I can get a good idea of how's it would be...
I like the idea of Durham... No idea why, never been or anything, just appeals Smile

Durham is meant to be awesome - I wish I'd applied there. Yes, Oxford can be a lot of work BUT it is what you make it, especially with subjects like History and English. If you want to spend every day in the library reading the entire reading list you can (nobody does). Alternatively, if you want to do all the work the day before it's due, you can. I knew loads of people who went out every night and still managed to do all their work. Plus, the city itself is gorgeous and the college atmosphere is brilliant. I applied because I loved my subject and I wanted to learn and because I loved the whole idea of it - the black tie dinners, the amazing old pubs, the rowing, the college lifestyle, the crazy fancy dress...

I completely agree with Julia that you'll love wherever you go, but I sometimes feel that Oxbridge gets a bit of a bad press, so I feel the need to be a walking tourist board...sorry! Smile

My friend went to Durham, not much of a nightlife/drinking scene though I'm told.  But I guess Newcastle ain't so far away.

From what I hear, I got a 2:1 for my social theory essay. Not happy at all.

A first.

I know when I've written a good essay. My psychology one was poor, so I don't know how I ended up with a decent mark for that. I was very happy with my social theory essay, though.

It is strange that you thought your psychology essay was poor and yet you got a decent mark, whereas this social theory essay is the inverse.

It appears your tutor looks for different thing in an essay than you do.  Did he explain why you only got a 2:1 ?
