The big news in the gaming world at the moment is the 'Oculus Rift' which is the first decent virtual reality system on its way and which will be available to the average consumer. It's also backed by the leaders in the gaming industry.

I am so bloody excited. Watch the video:

Right, now that I finally have my own place and a good TV I shall be purchasing a PS3 in the coming weekend. Which is the best tennis game at the moment?

Top spin 4 if you want authenticity

Grand slam tennis 2 if you want a bit more arcadey type fun Smile

Top Spin 4.

It's still not great, but it's certainly the best on the market.

If I had some money and a development team behind me, I reckon I could make an excellent tennis sim.

Cool thanks. Grand Slam Tennis 2 seems to be easier to find here but will look into it. Would be good to have some online matches with some of you.

And in traditional style a new version of the PS3 has just been announced last night to be released in NZ next Thursday so now I don't know what to get again. I guess it's good this has come a few days before the planned purchase rather than after it!

I can't get over how exciting virtual reality with Oculus Rift will be. I'm struggling with the wait but it realistically could be out next year.

They're also hoping to get position tracking added for release so that it senses your body's movements, not just head tracking. I'm going to be throwing money at this the first chance I get.

And this one is for my homies, yeah boi!

Try tennis elbow. Cheap sim from amateur developers. I can't stop playing it.

Looks good, do you need a high spec to play it?

The animation looks brilliant, amazing how a cheap sim can make something so authentic on a fraction of the Top Spin 4 budget!

James, did you manage to install that ATP patch? Was it easy to do?

It was a little annoying because his instructions on the first page are wrong.

Most of what he says is right, but there's one thing he got wrong that screwed me over on like 5 different installs.

Do it this way:

1) After making clean install, OPEN my Data file, COPY everything, go to YOUR Data folder from the clean install, PASTE it there, REPLACE everything.
2) COPY Data(1), DataDavis, DataWimb, Menu, Music, Script, Tennis.ini, then PASTE it in your Tennis Elbow Folder (from the clean install), REPLACE EVERYTHING it asks you.
3) IMPORTANT: Before starting the game, COPY EVERYTHING in Data(1) and PASTE it in your Data.

When he says "my" data file, he is referring to his patch. When he refers to "your" data file, he means your tennis elbow folder.

I don't think English is his first language.

Cheers.

Will have a bash at that on Monday - my laptop seems more than good enough to run it. Fully licensed ATP career mode, I'm moist.

No, doesn't need a high spec computer. I play it on my laptop.

It takes a few hours to get used to, but you'll soon get to grips with it and it feels like a proper sim. The animations are great, most of which are from the patch. The game is only half as good without Sam's patch.

The tour is very authentic, too. Here's Murray vs. Pony.

Aye, the patch does give the game its authenticity. Don't think I would play it without.

I'll hopefully convince Julia to buy it as well - another tennis game I can beat her at. yay
