It has been hijacked but so have Birthdays, Christmas, Easter etc.  Its a celebration of love and as you are lucky to have your special someone, celebrate it with her.  You don't need to contribute to commercialisation to do that.  My daughters haven't found their special someone but do like Valentines Day.  There has been disappointment for them sometimes but they still look forward to it.

It all depends on your mentality towards these things. Some people hate it, some like it, some are somewhere in between.

I just think it's too commercial, even more so than Christmas or a birthday.

IMO, more a commercial attempt at making people appreciate something that couples should be appreciating every day.

I would never spend hundreds of pounds as a present for Valentine's Day so symbollically, it's just a chance to show you care - never harms. Smile

I don't particularly like most of the appreciation type days. I appreciate my special someone everyday and won't do something extra because it happens to be Valentines Day... i will do something extra on the days that I want to, that way it is more romantic, that way is more natural, that way is not influenced by commercialism.

I find the whole idea that a day that means we must be romantic actually makes it unromantic.

Ah, the real reason for the bitterness. Maybe there's a surprise on the way...

In an ideal world Valentines Day is ignored and we do something special for our partner on days of our choosing and not with the whole nation. Romance is meant to be spontanous and that just isn't possible when you are expecting it on a particular day.

Die Valentines Day, DIE.

Completely agree. Im sure woman would appreciate a spontaneous gesture of love from their partner without having to expect it on a certain day. That takes the uniqueness out of the equation totally.
