I hate flying. I hate going on the sea even more. Wish I could just go anywhere via a magic carpet or the Star Trek transporter thingy.
I too, hate flying.  But I'd never let that stop me from going anywhere.  It's a necessary evil...  yes

New holiday destination !!

Received some pix today of friends who made the trip here and absolutely LOVED it.  They bought, amongst many other things, chocolate frogs but passed on the unbelievable line to have a wand select you as an owner  (what GREAT fun that would be) ...

Depends what you're after and how long you're staying. Auckland is the biggest city and everything is there, it's where you would spend the most time doing the tourist things as there's the most to see - the other main cities to visit like Wellington, Christchurch can be done in 2-3 days and Rotorua is a must visit but is a 1 day thing. But if you're planning on travelling around the whole country, particularly the South Island then Wellington is right in the centre and easy to get to both the South Island and Auckland in the north - there's not really anywhere north of Auckland worth going unless you're interested interested in surfing or fishing. Also the further north you get (above Auckland), the less friendly people will tend to be to your foreign accent.

If you're wanting to live and work then again only really Auckland or Wellington, although I had to move from the former to the latter to get a job.

So what is it you're planning? Happy to help more, give me a PM if you want more detail. Smile

Cool, thank you Smile I'm just weighing up my options at the mo. I've got a window from the middle of November until Christmas when I'd really like to get some travelling done - one of my friends from uni is living in Japan at the moment, so I'm planning to go see him, but as I'm over in that part of the world I thought I should check out some other places, and I've always wanted to go to NZ! Ideally I'd rather take longer and go from October, but irritatingly my graduation is November 13th....grrrrrr.

I'm looking into getting a round-the-world ticket at the moment - stopping over in a few places, with a longer stay of 7-10 days in NZ and Japan - then I get to explore Japan with my friend and I could maybe pick up a tour in NZ, as otherwise I'll probably be mostly travelling alone...If you've got any recommendations from your travels Alex - planning, and who to go with and just general thoughts, that would be great!

^ Laura, that sounds really fab.  I'd love to visit Japan, but I think it'd have to be an 'organised' thing, and I'm not fond of having to stick to a regime, but then again, it'd probably be worth it for the experience.

You'll need to keep us updated with your plans.
