Daisy - question for you. For the *potential* American leg of my *potential* trip - where would you recommend going. Obviously the West Coast is a fairly obvious choice, but I'm quite interested in the South....hmmmm. Anywhere you - or anyone else for that matter - would particularly recommend??

The US does divide up quite easily when it comes to where to go.  Included in the West Coast you can go to Las Vegas (if you've never been AN ABSOLUTE MUST) ... has to be seen to be believed.  Also, the Grand Canyon falls into that leg.

As far as the south is concerned, there's the South (New Orleans, Georgia etc) and then there's the South West which is really Texas and you can cross the border into Mexico.

New Orleans is great - high police presence in the French Quarter, but last I read it is still a murder per day in New Orleans.  The South is definitely a delight ... drawling accents, Magnolias, Southern Belles (Buhweet is going to come along and blast me right out of the water  - Louisanna is his part of the world).

Additionally, there is the North West - rainy/fabulous scenery/whales/side trip to Alaska ....

Just depends on what type of holiday you'd like to have ...

Well I think for that bit of it I'd like to see quite a lot - I'm going on a beach holiday with my Mum in October and I might pop across to the Cook Islands between the US and NZ (dear lord, I am going to be BROKE), so getting around to a few different places would be good....

I don't know why, but the West Coast doesn't massively appeal, yet I feel that it should. Hmmmmm. I'd be going in November - does that have any impact?

ANY place in the Sunbelt (Texas to Florida) is great in November.  Farther north (unless you want snow etc) pass ...

The thing about the West Coast is that it is full of Liberals (life style) ... they are different from anyplace else.  Also, it is chock full of razzmatazz which is not everyone's cup of tea ....

I fancy doing a tour of the west coast - San Fran, San Diego and perhaps Seattle to take in an NFL game.

I love the West Coast ..... that drive down the Highway from San Francisco to San Angelo with the Pacific Ocean for company all the way ............ breathtaking ....  the flight is about 11 hours from London so you get off pretty knackered.  I remember driving what I thought was south and wondering why the Pacific was on my left ............. jet lag !!!!

Mmm North West and West Coast interests me too. Plus Hollister is a million times better than Abercrombie & Fitch. I'm hoping to visit all of the states one day...
