Would be nice to be in Rio for the WC, not sure if I could afford anything remotely like that, WCs are expensive business.
At least there'll be no f**king vuvuzelas.

I know but even to be in Brazil during the WC would be something special, it's religion for them. It would be a once in a life time sort of thing but I'm not sure if 2014 is too early to organise it, do you know anyone who speaks fluent Spanish? I don't

I thought one of your uni friends was Spanish?
Anyway, embarrassingly, I have to point out to you that Brazilians speak Portugese, not Spanish.

Portuguese?
I was talking about South America in general as Brazil would not be my first choice of destination.
He's Spanish Catalan, thought that was different...

You'd need an expert in many of the countries, Spanish dialect and South American dialect will be quite different, I would imagine.

What about Carlos Bernardes .... I thought he was from South America and spoke Portuguese? He and Nadal seem to understand each other well ...

So I have 10 days to get from Houston to LA - any thoughts folks?? Do I.....
1. Fly straight there
2. Fly to San Fran and travel down (fairly expensive)
3. Greyhound to New Orleans, spend a few days there and then fly out
4. Take a crazy-amazing 70 hour train and bus journey across half of America, taking in St Louis, Kansas City and others?
5. Do something else???
It will be the tail end of November / December. Thoughts please!!

I thought that, especially if you get enough stops into it
My ex-flatmate did something similar and loved it. But depends whether you can face the train for that distance, even over a period of days

I like the train, though I'm only on it for a small amount of time.
I could never do a cross country thing, I prefer flying.
