Only just found this thread and wanted to say that the very fact you started it and have showed such honesty is very much to your credit Joe. I don't have any advice to offer and others have already offered what sounds like very good advice. But have you thought about investigating mindfulness? It's very helpful in developing body and self awareness and while I have no idea if it's specifically helpful for people with Aspergers, I somehow think it could be. And I could ask someone I know who teaches it, if you would like.
Joe you strike me as someone who is pretty sensitive to what others are saying in your responses when some of us jump on you for eg inappropriate language. And that isn't always the case with people on the autistic spectrum I believe (my only direct experience being a student who sat on a disability committee I chaired some years ago). So I hope you can take strength from the friends you have made in this virtual world and take it out into the world around you.
Oh and I hope you're feeling a bit less down about it since you wrote your original post
