I'll always drive an automatic and I've got a full license... there's not much of a premium on automatic cars really, is there? I don't see much appeal in manuals.

The Tiptronic automatic in my Porsche Boxster is amazing. You've got a manual drive option when you change gear by clicking a rocker-switch on the steering wheel. It's just like driving a motor bike. I've got a Harley fat-boy replica. You can change down with a flick of the switch and use the gearbox as a brake. It practically stops dead when you go into 1st.

So, did you get your license driving a manual?

I love automatics - but I think they go better with bigger roads - these wee twisty roads, you need to change up and down and you get there faster with a manual than an automatic ....

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said full license. The extra effort required to drive a manual is not for me, I want a very relaxing drive.... one day I will have a nice Jaguar Very Happy

It's weird driving an automatic when you're used to a stick shift.  The only time I drove an automatic was when I lived in Canada.   Between that and the whole left hand drive thing - it takes a bit of getting used to.

Definitely for the American's and Canadian's.  I went on a 15 hours road trip and it was two motorways ... thats when you need an automatic cruise control car!  lol

Once I'm going changing gears is a doddle.  I know when its the right time to change and that but its the routine of stopping coz you go ... break and clutch then hand break ... or something!!!

For the drivers, do you have go down in gears before you stop?
If you're slowing down and stopping without any accelerating in between, then no.

Jaguars do not exist any more ..... they are Ford motor cars .... well, in fact (but I may be out of date ...) I think TaTa owns and makes them now ..... so they are Indian.  So BORING now ....

You don't have to for your test, but some instructors teach you to do that.

It's much better to use the gears to slow down anyway, as saves wear and tear on your brake pads and is the sign of a good driver. But do whatever your instructor recommends.

So whats the routine for stopping at some lights if you was like 3rd gear.  Just brake, stop in neutral then start off again in gear 1, then 2, then 3 or what ... this is what I panick about Think
