However, searching for some small positive to this there are a lot of Londoners blogging and tweeting and plans to get involved in clean-up and checking on the vulnerable in their communities. Of course some clean-up will depend on what's considered crime scene, which in theory should be every street and shop touched in the effected areas -don't see that happening somehow.
Also been some communities, a lot of Asians etc banding together to protect their shops and businesses.

Descent into hell as London burns - The Sun

Meanwhile London is still burning as the violence and rioting spread.  Not the best publicity for a city holding the next Olympic Games!  Also reports of trouble in Birmingham.

God only knows where else it'll break out.  Cameron is returning from his holiday to hold an emergency meeting with COBRA.

They should bring our troops back from Afghanistan and let them sort out the trouble.  Seems this country has the greater need.

The rioters who think they have a grievance, some say it's against the police, no work, or whatever, should be sent to the horn of Africa to see real suffering, or to Zambia, or any of the other countries where poverty and suffering are present. They need a real reality check.
As far as I can see they are selfish yobs and don't care that they are ruining people's lives and we will all have to pay for the destruction they have caused.

Categorising these people as "yobs" and "morons" is no use whatsoever. We have to understand where this anger and contempt is coming from. If people feel they have no stake/no place in our society they will behave like this. What have people who feel marginalised got to lose?
Society/law/ order/policing only works if we, the people, are in agreement with it.
And I'm afraid locking everyone up won't work either. We already imprison more than any other European country and our prisons are bursting at the seams.
We used to send young men to war, now we send them to prison.

If they have no job they should join the army, they'd be naturals in a war.

Hope it doesn't spread, though I doubt it will .... northerns wouldn't want to be seen copying southerns lol

It is ridiculous the size of this.thing already and people jumping on board. Have they been sniffing Amy Winehouse's ashes or something??

It's times like these that I'm glad that we moved away from the UK.  Senseless violence and destruction for nothing.  My family have had it tough and so has my hubby's but we didn't riot or vandalise or loot.  I feel sorry for the police - fight back and they come off as being heavy handed or step back and they are accused of doing nothing.  Do something wrong and suffer the consequences.  Now is not the time to be soft with them and no, don't lock them up, make them rebuild what they have destroyed!
