Reading this thread just reminds me of how idiotic Tommy is.
Why? Because his beliefs are different to yours? Left-wingers are so intolerant.
This site is so liberal it should be renamed Commie World.
Margaret Thatcher closed the mines, the steelworks and the shipyards because they were uneconomical. They weren't viable businesses. And the Poll Tax was the fairest tax yet introduced.
Like Council Tax, this was a tax based on the services you received for your local council. If you lived in a mansion, you didn't get your bins emptied any more regularly and the fire service didn't come out to you any more quickly. Why should you pay more?

Interesting you mention the Poll Tax - a friend was just talking about that the other day and mentioned that there are 6 adults living in one house close to where they live. One lot of council tax versus 6 lots of poll tax!

That's such a tired old cliche. Just a bit further back in this thread, Tommy was deriding the liberal nature of this forum ('socialism' is a crime akin to incest and rape in the eyes of the average American, you see). I've seen plenty of guff from you about scroungers and the like, too. Have you looked at comments on The Daily Mail lately? I sincerely hope you're trolling here.
Are you seriously trying to say, after having looked around at Tommy's various postings on different matters, usually political or religious, that he is anything other than a far-out-there tool? I remember him denouncing others for criticising George W Bush, FFS. Don't get me started on his championing of Sarah Palin either.
I'm disappointed in you, Nigel.

Yes she closed all the heavy industry and left thousands of people out of work. She also did not make any attempt to find or encourage new jobs into those areas.

Not really read Tommy's comments. But I do find that liberals are the most tolerant people in the world until it comes to dealing with anyone of a right-wing persuasion. Then the gloves are off.

It's more that they're intolerant of those who do not practice tolerance.

Thatcher closed the South Wales coal mines and left the people to rot. The least she could have done was re-invest the revenue from North Sea oil in long term jobs, instead of giving it all up in tax breaks.
Whether u think someone is a terrorist or a freedom fighter depends on which side of the fence you sit eg Nelson Mandela imprisoned for years because he was a "terrorist" and that former Prime Minister of Israel, always forget his name, who spent much of his life bombing British troops.

Because his beliefs have no substance. He would be a fan of Hitler if he had called himself a Conservative. Tommy thought Sarah Palin was fit to be President. That should tell you all you need to know.

So, therefore, they don't practise tolerance either. You can't pick and choose who you're tolerant about.

There's a problem with that argument, therefore do Western Liberal democracies "tolerate" behaviour that will destroy them?
Society can't possibly tolerate every kind of behaviour, it would fall apart.

I am sorry she has died. But the woman was loathed by many of her so called fellow conservatives and many others. I am sure there will not be many Scots who will grieve for her. Her introduction of the Poll Tax caused riots. I also remember the closing of mines and the Ravenscraig steel plant also the shipyards. Also the way strikes were broken up by the police. She sold off all the nationalised companies selling them for next to nothing to her cronies. Who are still making massive profits whilst ripping off ordinary people. I am sure she will not be missed at all.

I can't honestly say I am sorry. The only good thing she did as far as I am concerned was to make more people realise what a good idea Scottish independence would be.

Well said I luvandy. I can honestly say I loathed her and her politics. Perhaps we in Scotland saw the real version of Thatcher. I think she was all for big business and sought to keep working people down. The only ones who will truly miss her are Osbourne,Cameron and his millionaire friends.
