Well had my Doctor's appointment today and Xrays are all normal which is good news, so as I thought there's no spina bifida. Still doesn't explain why the pain has been going on for months though so the doc has now ordered an MRI as it's presumably a nerve thing that will probably need an epidural.

That's great news! Hope they get you sorted out soon!

If they actually give you an epiural I'll be narked-I can't persuade anyone to give me one My sympathies though, back pain sucks, especially when it's a nerve problem

At least that's that out of the way because it sounded like it had the potential to cause more trouble. Hope the MRI scan helps to get to the root of the problem and that it can be dealt with quickly.

Got my MRI appointment for 7th October.
Good to hear you're not having to wait too long. Have you had one before? It's an odd experience

So after all those months I finally have a diagnosis! Had the MRI on the 7th and saw the Doctor just now. There is a piece of disc that has somehow broken off and is resting on the nerve on the left side, which is causing the pain/discomfort down the left leg. He thinks it should gradually be absorbed by the body over time so probably nothing needs to be done - and the pain has gradually got better over the last month (although am still needing the pain killers when I get up in the morning).
Very unlikely to need any surgery but he's still sending me to see a spinal specialist/surgeon for a second (and specialist) opinion just in case. Other option is an epidural injection as already discussed although not unless it gets worse again.

Very glad to hear the good news but hope the problem doesn't take too long to resolve itself. Think it's wise of your doc though to send you for a specialist opinion just to be on the safe side.

For once the NHS have it right 'Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a rare condition that causes a long-term burning pain in a limb or part of a limb. CRPS used to be known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy. The areas that are usually affected are the arms. legs, hands and feet. CRPS causes a severe, continuous pain that can make the affected part of the body difficult to use. The skin of the affected area can also become very sensitive, so that even the slightest touch or change in temperature can cause intense pain.' Ooouchy is me

In what way - I mean, have you got thrush? Friend of mine has had that for months and can't get it to clear up.

No, nothing like that. I'm a good boy.
I've had every nasty test under the sun. They reckon it's some kind of prostatitis and I've been taking antibiotics for months now. They've done no good but, strangely, it's gone away the last two days. I'm hopeful.

You don't have to be a bad boy to get thrush - and my friend certainly hasn't been one!
Bit annoying when they can't get to the root of the problem, so hopefully the antibiotics have finally done their work and that you're OK now.
