Great news from NZ and hopefully to follow in many other countries.

Soon enough everyone will look back at the people that opposed marriage equality in the same way we see opposition to the abolishment of slavery.

Well the first was about this man in Australia who liked to give back-packers a lift, only instead of taking them where they wanted to go, he took them into the bush, tied them up and either shot them or stabbed them several times.  The police spent two years trying to track him down but it was only after his 11th victim that they managed to do so.  Basically he just got too confident and carried out his last murder fairly near a main road through the bush, so the body was discovered quickly and samples of DNA, which turned out to belong to him (the police did have him earmarked as a suspect) were found on the body before it had time to decompose.  Viewers were shown film of previous severely decomposed and mutilated corpses, btw.

I saw this story on True Crime Stories and it was a whole hour show - not so long ago in fact. Typically they wouldn't cover anything outside their country, but I believe there were a few US students (back-packers) involved. They went missing in that specific area.

Basically, as I understand it, some people just fantasize about killing other people - especially in these sorts of cases. I watch all sorts of crime stories mostly because I feel the need for it. I’d like to be fully aware of what human beings are capable of when they choose to exercise the highest order of evil. This too can be very enlightening.

There's been a few similar to this everywhere. I used to love watching murder mysteries and documentaries.

You used to? Like when? Five years ago when you were 11 or ten years ago when you were 6? lol :p

To change the subject away from bombings briefly, the NZ parliament has just this evening voted same sex marriage in.
Hopefully the Scottish Parliament will soon follow suit given that a public consultation on a draft Bill closed on 20 March and that the proposed legislation already has full cross-party support.  Of course the Roman Catholic church is firmly opposed to the idea but at least the Church of Scotland has many clergy who are taking a more enlightened, if cautious, stance on the issue, especially as there will be no onus placed on any member of the clergy to conduct such a marriage ceremony.

Fortunately I've since tracked the video down on the BBC's US and Canada website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22194183 - "Obama brands gun control vote 'shameful day for Washington'."

No wonder he's so angry.  It's truly pathetic that a small minority in the Senate have the power to block something which apparently 90% of the American people want.

Damn he's pissed, and rightfully so!

It must be so incredibly frustrating to have his hands tied. He certainly seemed to talk straight from the heart, but with a calm and steely mind, and I admire his commitment to continue to fight against the Senate who continually bend over for the bullying minority.

I'm a bit Ben Elton-ish when it comes to politics, as in "..a little bit of politics.." but I do know that many guns easily cross the US/Canadian border and cause so much grief here.
