Another joyous day in the land of the free, I take it?

I don't know. Do you think that calling Michelle Obama is a dirty Mexican who stole the first lady position from a white lady and saying it is exactly like illegal immigrants coming in and taking jobs from "white men" something that would make your heart so happy and full of joy?

No one ever said that they were smart.

These people also think that the ACLU is comprised of black atheists, only seeking out to help black atheists.

Thought I'd bump this old thread.

I am so over the job searching and unemployment thing. First class honours degree and top in my year yet in the 3 years since I finished Uni I've been unemployed for around a year and a half of it. Not all at the same time as it was broken up by a couple of fixed term contracts, but am currently 2 and a half months into the latest spell of unemployment. Don't know how much more of it I can take. I feel like I've been constantly searching and applying for jobs for 4 years now. Is it understandable that I just want a year, maybe 2 off having to do it?

I don't have high ambitions. Is it really too much to ask for to just have a permanent job in the background somewhere that nobody cares about with a living wage so I can at least live a life. Rent my own place and be able to actually make some plans. Just feel so worthless.

Have started on my citizenship application so I can think about trying Australia (NZ citizens can live and work there indefinitely with no need for visas or anything and vice versa) although I don't think I'll have the money to actually be able to move there without a job. Toyed with the idea of trying the UK but I figure the economy there is even more ****** than here. Plus with my Grandma now in a rest home I no longer have that free place to stay for a little while in London. If she still had her house it might have been worth going over for a few months and trying my luck as I'd have no living costs and nothing to lose, then if I got something I could find a place of my own.

Anyway sorry for the rant, just needed to do it somewhere.

And for a more light-hearted rant, I have a dream that one day we will be able to turn on the television or open a magazine without having to see a ******* Kardashian!

I think the citizenship application is the right course of action.  It can be very disheartening to be constantly told no we don't want you.  I've said many a time that I believe that things happen for a reason and when they fall in to place, it's meant to be!  Good luck!

I have the same feeling's about Posh btw! lol

Bump.

My Dad has just been into his Doctor's clinic to request some repeat prescriptions for him and my Mum. Mum's was all good but when the receptionist looked up my Dad she informed him that he was dead, and they had a date of death for him. After making it quite clear that he was standing there and was actually alive, he was made to enrol as a new patient again! He managed to see a nurse or someone to verify his records were still there (important due to speclist appointments and things) and then got his prescription signed by a GP on the spot (usually takes 24 hours to get one without an appointment). There was no apology from anyone either.

Preusmably someone with a similar name has died but is still on their books.

blink  Customer service is very poor in parts of NZ - an apology for the mix up was the least he could have expected!

I'm glad I've found somewhere to have a rant. Someone tell me, what is Britain coming to when the emergency services can't find a church (on a Sunday mind!) on their system and take ages to come out to an elderly man who has collapsed?

I was in church this morning and down a pew or two from where I was sitting there was an old gentleman. I don't know him well, just enough to say hello to really, but I did know the lady who, thank God as it happened, was sitting next to him. She's a district nurse I know quite well.

Just prior to the sermon (great timing, honestly, even the vicar said so!) the gentleman suddenly sat forward in his seat and I spotted the nurse I know talking to him, as if something was wrong. Something just made me grab my mobile phone out of my bag. The next thing we knew the old man had gone deathly pale and he literally slid down the pew on to the floor. I have to say it was frightening really. The old gent looked as if he'd gone. It wasn't a nice thing to see.

A few people came to the man's aid, of course, so all I could do was check if an ambulance was needed. I was told it was, then someone told me that the phone in the church office had been used. Something just made me check though, and I was told that the phone in the office wasn't working, so I phoned 999. I got through and honestly, what a whoohaaa. They practically wanted the bloke's life history, his age, his name, all that stuff, before they even got around to asking what the problem was. Then they struggled for ages to find the church on their computer system. They then told me they'd found it and an ambulance was coming. We waited for ages and in the end I phoned again, but halfway through the second call the ambulance arrived.

It just gets me because we, even the district nurse, had no way of knowing why the old man had collapsed. It looked like it could have been his heart to some of us, in which case time is important.

In the end the man was okay, he just needs to see his GP about a few things, which is obviously the most important thing, and I know the brief confusion over the phone didn't help, but surely in this day and age you should expect the emergency services to be able to work out where a church is. Sometimes I wonder how helpful technology actually is!
