Now that I definately don't agree with. If you have a strong faith the hard times only make that faith stronger. And i could give you dozens of examples of that including one that is particularly close to my heart right now.
I've seen the contrary happing quite a few times too. I'm sure a strong faith helps many people, but it makes others collapse too. It's all about what you're willing to see.

I'm not completely blind to it. I've seen it happen too. It's just that I'm a member of a church and true to life people face really very difficult circumstances everyday and in my experience people are so much more often comforted and helped by their faith and the support of the church than disappointed with it. I'm willing to see it, and I have, I've just seen the oppisite happen so much more. My experience though. I'm perfectly willing to accept that yours is different.

You can say that about life anyway even if you do or don't have a religion. I've had maybe ups and downs recently where I've gone from my usual nice self to a complete **** but I've managed to get myself back on track because I have a different way of dealing with it (compared to a religious person who would turn to their faith). Its about what goes on in peoples own heads and the way their personality works.

Exactly right, everyone has different ways of getting through the hardships almost eveyone faces at somepoint. That's what I believe about Religion and faith in general, that it's there as a support. Glad smeone else brought it up before me.

I get that, i do. And I don't have a problem with people who are genuinely interested in what I've got to say asking questions. Like on here, for example, I'm perfectly happy to have an open and honest discussion about it. But when people throw something like that at you when they don't actually care what your answer is and they're only doing it to trip you up because it's one of those mainstream arguments. that's what I'm talking about.
Glad you meant that cause I read the first bit and was about to have a go myself!
Good reason for reading all the posts me thinks.
Some good discussions going on here guys

Just for the record I did know such wars existed, I just wanted to see if Dana could name any. However my point about them not living up to WW's, Gulfs, Faulklands, Vietnam etc still stands.
Glad you all enjoyed our discussion.

To be honest I wasn't sure how to answer why that was my opinion. So I said that instead. (it's a valid reason!)
