I just watched this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6F15Spb75M?

Very good movie, hard to watch though. Most probably feel the greatest empathy towards Bobby but I feel so bad for the mother in this as well, Christianity is the real mental illness not homosexuality; a psychological disorder inflicted upon her by her own parents. It's clear to see with things like this, being burdened and tormented with nonsense from a book - it's just such a waste.

It was intentionally patronising for the sake of humour though.

Him as a person, I have no idea.

I didn't know he was a comedian.   I had to google him as I never watch stand up comedy now.
When I read that I know why.   I don't find that humorous - just patronising.    No idea of him as a person either but at a guess I would say he is not as clever as he thinks he is.

You have totally missed the point, Veronica. Congratulations, you have just posted in JPEG form an argument that Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck have made (as well as thousands of others who missed the point).

It's not about religious people doing bad things or atheists doing bad things. It's about bad things being done because of bad ideas. It's about bad things being done because of religion.

People don't seem to understand the distinction between doing something evil because of religion and doing something evil while happening to also be religious. There is no logical path from atheism to committing atrocities. You cannot say that about religion.

Some of the world's most evil people were atheist and had no religious beliefs. One being Mao Zedong.

That's not the point. There are good atheists and there are bad atheists. There are good religious people and there are bad religious people.

However, people don't do bad things in the name of atheism, which is essentially a belief without content. It simply means a lack of belief in deities.

But people do bad things in the name of religion. There is a logical path from religion to, for example, 9/11. You can't say the same for atheism.

I honestly don't know why people find that point so difficult to grasp.

I do think Clydey is right here Gangsta! I've always thought that this is the real meaning of the word 'blasphemy'......Doing evil deeds 'in God's name' and it doesn't matter which name 'your' God goes by.....it makes no difference at all!
