If they did not murder and exploited the masses can you please tell me how they acquired their wealth?
And if they were that universally popular with the masses why did they decide on quick name change and why the unexpected rise in throne staining around the time of the Russian revolution for fear that it may spread to these shores.
I’ve not got a problem with people who want to curtsy or pull their forelock and look up to their supposed betters, but I will not.

I was thinking more specifically of the longer history of Britain. They acquired their wealth through a) taxes, which yes, were often exploitative and b) land, the acquisition of which has rarely involved mass murder. I didn't say they were universally popular - it is impossible to be so. But I think that their popularity in the past is difficult to contest.
I don't want 'to curtsy or pull my forelock', but I respect tradition and I am proud of it. If you're not, that's fine - times change. Having said that, despite the fact that you say that you don't have a problem with people who want to 'curtsy' etc., I find the way that you phrase that statement condescending, as if I don't know better. I think the royal family work hard for the country, I think that the queen doing all the engagements she does at the age of 81 is admirable. I wouldn't want to have to live my life according to protocol, having my every movement scrutinised.

I'll agree to disagree on this one, pointless going round in circles when neither of us will change our position.

I entirely agree. Don't have time now, but maybe later I'll write a proper response...

I'm with Al on this and I would love for the Royal family to simply not exist as they do right now. I can't believe we pay so much so that they can have their privileged lives
