The new breed of smartphones.

Does it use the official Google cloud technology for it? Or is it an app that does it all locally without Google?

Google cloud stuff, just like on the N1.

Awesome, thanks for the info!

Looks like I'll be buying a Desire and getting a refund for my N1 (assuming they will collect it). I need to be absolutely 100% happy with a purchase like this because I want to use it for 3 years+.

Where did you buy your Desire from? Amazon have it only on pre-order for next week.

I wandered over to the local t-mobile shop. They had loads in stock. This was for a contract upgrade though.

My local Carphone Whorehouse had loads as well.

Cool, I'll pop in my local one on the way back from work.

To use this voice hack, I assume I'll need to wipe everything and install a ROM... are you aware of a link that gives easy instructions to do all that?

Nope, it's a signed official APK. All you need to do is enable USB debugging in the settings, copy the file across and install it using something like Astro file manager (download it from the market).

To be fair, T-Mobile were practically ejaculating at the thought of me renewing my contract.

Mobile internet and calls abroad are ******* expensive, even if you have a great contract.

The nearest town is also Chav Central, which means high-end phones are out of the reach of most of the inhabitants (well, without resorting to mugging and theft obviously)

I read about this some time ago and wondered how that happened - but, upon reflection, I imagine they fall out of people's pockets when they go to the loo .. Embarassed
