Wet, cold and, as they say in these parts, gey dreich. Frown

The view from my flat is over a huge, fairly upmarket residential area, and in the spring and summer espcially it's a joy to see the multiplicity of trees, but at the moment it's just nothing but depressingly bare branches.  At least the snow made them look a little better!

We've got thick fog too - however, finally saw my three large rose bushes which ramble over an outbuilding, and their leaves are all still on there, green, and shiny!

Some of my earliest memories are the feelings of pure joy in late March or early April when the sun comes out, birds tweet in the gardens and the heady scent of the flowers once again fills the air.

That time of year also has a close tie-in with the start of the tennis season, too. As a teenager, I used to love going down to my old club on the first day of the season, helping the men prepare the shale courts, then enjoying a couple of sets of doubles at the end of our exertions. There was so much to come.

Tornado outbreak kills six in south and mid-western US

You do have to wonder what's going on.  Look at the recent dump of snow in the US; the worst snow for over 60 years in the UK, Scotland's coldest December on record, the floods in Queensland, which are the worst for nearly a century in some places, while the southern and western parts of the country are experiencing such high temperatures that there are fire warnings in place, with Perth having its hottest summer on record.  According to The Guardian, the flooding has been caused by a so-called "El Niña" weather pattern, which cools waters in the eastern Pacific, but this doesn't explain the unusually high temperatures elsewhere.  At least the local Queensland governments have acted very quickly with offers of financial help - unlike in some countries ... Whistle

Eastern Australia seems to be having terrible weather at the moment - the north east is flooded out whilst the south east is baking blink   Freakish.
