So, how's the weather with you?

Winter arrived here earlier this week with the first (early Rolling Eyes) blanket of snow, and -10 deg. C in the morning, warming up to a balmy -4 deg. C with a windchill of -8 in the afternoon.  cold

Wow....I just cannot imagine living in such a cold country. I would love to but now, I'm thinking whether I really do. Its been cold in Chennai for the last one week and I am not able to manage with this itself. It is so bloody cold in the morning but gets better as the day passes. And the temperature must be some 20 celsius or so. And now seeing these pictures and the temperature there, I was just thinking how how people manage with such chilly weather.

We get great summers, so that makes up for the winters. We get around no problem because the roads are always cleared, we change to winter tires, and 4WD helps.

We have just had a Mother Of An Ice-storm, and currently still under warning for more to come. In all my time here, I've never had this bad. I didn't know what freezing rain was until I came here. Always thought they meant hailstones.
But no.. freezing rain is extremely dangerous. Falls as rain, but as soon as it hits something it freezes immediately and sticks.
I can't even get out to our garage. Yesterday my hubbster tried to move my car, but he slid right off the driveway and then couldn't get traction to get back on. My vehicle is a big solid Suburban with 4WD, and no slouch in the winter.
Here's some pics from outside our house today:

I'm trying to post pics of our street because there are some trees down with the weight of the ice, but it's in a zip file and I don't know how to do it.
One of our neighbour's has a tree ready to collapse onto their roof. It's split down the middle. Yikes!

Amazing pics - never seen so many icicles hanging off everything, or so much ice on the trees. There are more pictures on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-25489412

There's a lot of weather going on in UK as well today, though no ice storms. Hope everyone stays safe and warm.

Great pictures.  My daughter lives in Oregon and they have had these ice storms as well.  We were out there 2 years ago and they had 12 ft of scow and everything carried on as normal.  The snow ploughs went up and down the mountains 5 times per day and twice a day down the side roads just to keep everything flowing.  They have now moved down to the valley as it was too far to drive when she was on call but she says they miss the silence etc. brought about by so much snow.  It was quite odd driving past only to see the chimneys of the chalets in the resorts.

Hope everyone in this country is okay after last night's storm.  It has calmed down now in Surrey.

Our travel plans for today are on hold. See below. (Also.. there's a squirrel in the last pic, but I think the date display is over it. I don't know how to switch it off.)
