What, is that some sort of dig?
I'd love to be a sports journalist (wouldn't we all?) but that's pie in the sky, it's all about contacts to get your foot in the door. Also, I'm sure I've mentioned somewhere that my dislike for the British media/paparazzi types is the reason I wouldn't go into journalism, even if I did have the opportunity.
I'm considering going into teaching, and yet I disliked some of my teachers, it's the same idea surely? But if you can name me an industry where everyone is lovely, on you go.
The Monk industry in tibet...

I know I sound like a pessimist, but I feel there's been far too much hype around Andy this time round.
I mean, comments from Borg saying Andy's among the favourites to win. As if we didn't already know that.
Even this website are adding to the pressure on the man.
I have to say I don't think he'll win. He'll reach the quarters, of that I'm pretty confident. But there's many out there who would love to beat him, just as in the French Open. Nadal was out there as well but the pressure got to Andy as many thought he'd go on to win because of that.
Fed's still there and with little or no pressure at all on him, even though he's number 1 seed. While everyone talks of Andy Roger is being left alone.
And if I hear Fred Perry mentioned one more time on the telly there's a foot going through it.

I'm hardly putting pressure on him, I detest that sort of thing. I'm just trying to point out that he CAN win, he has a good chance.

"I'm just trying to point out that he CAN win, he has a good chance."
I think everyone knows that, but the more people say it Andy feels he has to do it. There's an expectancy about that Henman and no other British player has had to contend with since Fred Perry's days.
Who mentioned him?

I'd say there's a difference between objectively discussing the fact that he can do it and the hype machine generated by the print media, fuelling the talk of the two-week-a-year brigade.
It's unrealistic to expect his chances not to be talked about at all. I'm sure he can handle that, he's a clever lad.

The pressure was not Andy's problem at RG when Nadal went out. It was Gonzalez. I don't think anyone puts as much pressure on Andy as he does on himself. So i don't think it's gonna be a problem. He's 2nd highest ranked player in the draw for Wimbledon! Of course the hype was gonna be huge. Of course he's a huge favourite. Let's just stop talking about it an let the man speak through his tennis! Can't wait for the playing to actually start!

The pressure is inevitable, but it mostly comes - as Joe said - from the "tennis only exists in June" brigade... Those of us who follow Andy year round know that he's in the form of his life and has the potential to go all the way, but anything can happen... One match at a time as always
Nice to have you join us though, denspark1560 - keep up the posting
