That's pretty much it - Federer was simply too good and snuffed out any chances Murray had. That's a crushing for me.
Snuffed out Murray's chances with 2 mishit returns, one of which hit the line for a winner? You're giving Federer too much credit. He played great on some of those chances, but Murray was his own worst enemy on some. And then there were others where he was flatout unlucky.

I don't think he was crushed, however I think it's an acceptable opinion given Phil's explanation.
Personally, I would have just gone with the same headline without crushed in it.
That was my suggestion. "Murray defeated by ruthless Federer".

I could change the headline if I wanted to. I'm a bit of an inept tyrant.

James, The Sun said Andy was "blown away" by Federer.
Your argument is invalid.

If The Sun said it, it must be true.

I think James has a point.
Someone said that Andy won by 1 fewer point in the 1st set. It must have been something similar in the 3rd set so those two sets were very close.
The second set, Andy was hanging on for dear life saving numerous BPs (6-4 was a flattering scoreline) so the title is really only appropriate for the 2nd set IMHO .
If only Andy has won one of the 5 set points .....
I would say that the key distinction was Andy low first serve percentage. If he got a higher percentage in then we could be looking at a different result. I would say that this is result of nerve / lack of experience at GS finals.
As a matter of fact, I think this is a blessing in disguise. Andy hasn't peaked yet and he knows it. His transitional game from baseline to netplay is not yet perfect. That loopy FH lacks penetration power to come in on. To lose now would only make Andy more hungry, work harder to become an even better player.

would "Murray's dreams crushed by Federer" have met with the *******-comities approval?

Yes, that's better. Much more accurate.
Maybe try to be as objective as Barry Cowan next time.

Phil, if you want to change it, there's no problem with that... just in case you're wondering about any potential consequences with Google News and stuff. Up to you.

Eh, no, I stand by my headline. It amuses me that James is getting riled up by it.
