Shoutbox, should it return? « on: December 05, 2008, 03:27 PM »

With the launch of Google Friend Connect, I'm thinking of reintroducing the shoutbox we used to have on our home page. However, this time around the shoutbox will be using Google Friend Connect as a platform and therefore has quite a few new benefits that we didn't have previously... some from a server administrator's POV and some from the user's POV. I'd like to have it so guests can post without signing in and see how it goes but if we get too much spam then maybe just scrap it again.

I'll do this regardless of the vote as an experiment but just curious as to whether you would like to see the return of the shoutbox?

TIP: For those who were not here when it existed and do not know what a shoutbox is, it would be a small community box on the right of our home page that allows members and guests to post/chat on the home page of MurraysWorld.

Yup, for quite a while actually.

They have a shoutbox called "the wall"?? As far as I was aware, the wall was just everyone's page you could write a message on for the world to see.

But it always reminds me of a shoutbox, so why is it called the The Wall anyway?

Right I see. Because when you click on someone's page, you see everything that is/has happened with them lately, hence "their wall" or their space things have been put on. It makes sense.

Take a Wall, in a room, call it your wall, and stick some photos on it, notices, etc etc. Hence "The wall". Like you might have your wall in the room of your flat.

Guys, just as an experiment, I've carelessly dumped it at the bottom right of the home page, it would be great if you can try it and out tell me if it loads properly for you?

EDIT: Removed it for now.

Like a noticeboard type idea. 'Pin it on the wall' I think it's an Americam phrase.

OK, so I get the association with a notice board, they should call it that instead Very Happy

Like I say, it's an American phrase I think. They'd just say, 'stick it up on the wall' or whatever...
