Oh, hasn't Emma told you? She upgraded and reconfigured MySQL and PHP, and made sure APC had the correct cache size. She's a bit of a geek really.

I also cooked, cleaned and showered.

I know I'll regret asking - but what happened?

Just hurt my wrist playing. Don't know really what happened. You don't need to get worried about asking me questions Elly. Just spit them out lol

I'm going to look into seeing if it's possible to have donation system built into the forum. So we can have donation history on profiles and that sort of stuff.

What is everyone's views on showing a yearly target somewhere, like the bottom of the forum, based on the previous year's total running costs? A bit like Wikipedia do but more discrete.

I'm not really sure the best way to do this as I've always been concerned that accepting donations will change the image of the website in a negative way.

I think displaying running costs is a great idea.  I'm sure most people don't stop to think that the running of this site actually costs you money.  If you make it a voluntary thing to contribute, then I don't see why it makes the image of the site negative.  We all enjoy it and contribute with our voices, so it's only fair we contribute financially.  Some of us may not be able to contribute much - but I think it's only right we give a wee bit.

Whatever works is fine with me.

It would be interesting to me how much this has been costing you, Mark.

Well said Elly.  I'd be happy to give a monthly donation, even if it'll only be a very small one, so if that sounds like a good idea maybe a direct debit or standing order system could be set up for those who might want to do the same?

Well - I'm thinking it might not be good to do it in that way - as regards a 'regular' thing.  I think if it's left to people just to contribute as they see fit?  People come and go on the site, so I feel something 'binding' isn't the best thing.

As in, you think it's a bad idea to offer it as an option?
