The mind doubts, but the heart never does.

As in, you think it's a bad idea to offer it as an option?
Hmmm - how can I explain what I mean. I don't think direct debit for this is appropriate.  Of course you could offer it as an option.  People are fickle - and come and go, and I doubt many would subscribe to that level of commitment. I just think you'd get better results having a wee intro that showed running costs, and saying that all contributions were welcome.  And if they don't contribute, I'll trawl around with my baseball bat!  Very Happy  I'm not being helpful, but just trying to think of a way that might work best.

You're right most people wouldn't do it but still looking for a reason not to offer it as a simple option like a checkbox next to the donation.

No reason not to offer it - but I can't help but think it might put some people off a bit.  How about after people have posted 50 times, they get a wee option to contribute?  By then they're engaged with the site and know if they'll be back or not.

There are thousands of loyal visitors who choose not to register/post on the forum, so putting an extra obstacle in their way doesn't make sense to me.

Set up a form of internet promotion campaign to boost the popularity of the site even more. I know it isn't exactly ideal but its the best I've got.

It's tricky, Mark - but I do think you should ask for voluntary contributions where you can.

We need to think of new ideas to boost the popularity of the site, normally popular sites require contributions which are given pretty non-argumentatively.

Require?

Anyway, I think this website is pretty much as popular as it can be at this moment.

Well I for one would prefer to spread payments out rather than give a lump sum as a one-off.  I'm sure there are a few regulars who might also appreciate that - students, for example, and also I'm not the only 'oldie' on here who has to watch the pennies.   In the end of the day it might be in MW's interests too because people who pay once a month are more likely to give more in total than if they were to give a lump sum.
