anyone know why MW was just a blank for some time this afternoon?  I tried a number of times to log in but while I got the site ok there was nothing there. And when I'd try to send a PM it just cut out and went blank.  confused

Same here Ruthie, and started with me as well when I tried to send a PM, but I checked it out on a link Mark gave me about routing issues, and it seems CloudFlare was the problem, not MW.

Sorry for the downtime that occurred between 20:52 to 21:33 today. This was an unexpected issue from a configuration change made in preparation for making MW run encrypted through HTTPS.

is it possible for someone to change the current match links on the home page as it doesn't look too good to still have a tournament that took place nearly a month ago on it?  And it's also really handy to have those links.

Update

EDIT: Reverted back for now until issues with Windows XP users can be resolved.

I'm happy to announce that MurraysWorld now supports full-site HTTPS by default. Your connection is now encrypted from your browser to the origin web server. This is indicated by the padlock sign you see in your address bar.

This means that anyone watching your connection (such as WiFi hotspot providers) will be unable to see the plain-text contents of what your browser is communicating with MurraysWorld. This helps ensure that your communications with MurraysWorld, including your password, private messages and cookies, will not be viewable through the use of man-in-the-middle attacks.

The second benefit of this is we are now using Google's SPDY web protocol which increases the speed of browsing on MurraysWorld when through an encrypted connection.

Since the Edward Snowden revelations, encrypted website traffic in Europe has jumped from 1.47% to 6.10%. I'm glad we are now contributing to the fast growing campaign to encrypt web traffic worldwide.

Mark, I don't know if it's happening for everyone or just me, but when I click on the "new" button to take to the first unread post in various threads, it's not working for me- it's taking me to the top of the page and leaving me there. It's not that it's not loading- the page shows itself to be fully loaded- it's just not doing what it's supposed to!

It was absiolutely fine earlier,so I don't know why this has started happening out of the blue.Is there anything I should be doing/not doing that might fix it?

Most likely the change today of enabling encrypted traffic has played a role. I've just tested the 'new' function in Chrome, Firefox and IE10 and it worked correctly for me.

Would you be able to logout, clear your browser's cache and cookies and log back in and then see if that resolves it?

Do you know the browser and operating system you are using?

From yesterday neither my desktop or my laptop have been able to connect with MW. Chrome tells me it is unavailable. Both these comps are on XP. My IPad and my husband's desktop - Windows 7 are Ok. Before they stopped letting me on yesterday there seemed to have been a change in the format of MW, would this have affected my ability to connect? Do hope you can help -

Thank you for reporting this janscribe. It seems because Windows XP is so oudated, it struggles with some SSL encryption technology.

I've now reverted back all the changes and will revisit this in the near future. But this time will make sure to have a Windows XP machine to test on before making anything live!

I'm really sorry to those 5% of users who had this issue today.

Mark, thank you so very much for changing it all back, everything works as normal, but it does seem an awful shame that you have to forego the more updated system because of a few of us who haven't upgraded Windows. I will try and make time for this, it's getting used to a new system when I'm busy anyway. Once again many thanks. Strangely enough Os tried your advice in the previous post and cleared out the dross. We thought it had worked until I signed in and found your latest post to me.

I appreciate your concern over me sacrificing this change but I believe there is a way for this to be implemented even for Windows XP users and I will look into that.

That being said, it might be worth looking at upgrading just for the fact Microsoft are no longer supporting your operating system which is a security risk.

A change is scheduled, it's getting round to it, especially as our friend who runs a computer business says there should be no problem, at least for a little while. I suppose it depends on what you use a computer for but this small incident alone has made me think about not delaying it too much longer. Good luck with your searches for an alternative.  hug
