Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Here's a link to an article "
GB's trip to the unknown
" which first appeared on the BBC's tennis website on 23/9/09 and which gives info on Lithuanian players.

well done Andy, every one relies on you to win davis cup single handedly, and they forget its a team event, i think even the other players did this. they should play better without the fallback of world no 3

I think everyone with half a brain and who isn't taken in by the tabloid press realised that the England comment was a joke and nothing more. Even if he doesn't want England to win, that's fine.
I'm part Scottish myself and certainly would never be so ignorant as to dislike an entire nation based solely on the name of that nation. Anyone who does seriously needs to grow up.
I seem to remember a rather strange poster on here, about a year ago, constantly berating the English and claiming that it all stemmed from what the English did to the Scots centuries ago. Shouldn't everyone have moved on from that by now? We're friends with the Germans and we were in a massive war with them only 65 years ago!

Well Mel Gibson's braveheart movie never helped you's. Younger Scots were leaving the cinemas with their fists clinched.
Dunno if that was a good idea making that movie or not.

That's the one, I remember picking her up on her bizarre views too and she tried to bite my face off! Total freak.

Thought Braveheart was pathetic. Couldn't even find a Scottish actor to play leading role. Anyone who took it seriously has to be a moron, but Anglophobes do exist, and rather worryingly some are supposedly intelligent people.

Lets see how far Britain sink without Murray now
I'm optimistic our team won't let us down this time. Fleming and Skupski really shouldn't have problems and Baker's a good solid player who was unfortunately absent for a long time through illness. OK so Lithuania sounded "bring it on" after the draw was announced, and one of their team practices with and plays like Federer? Whilst not under-estimating them, I think Poland followed by Murray's withdrawal was a serious wake up call for Britain.

Interesting. Could we have a future Vitas Gerulaitis here? Although born in the US, he was the son of Lithuanian immigrants, and ironically it was he who defeated John Lloyd in the 1977 AO finals.

Being bred in the bone English, I have never looked upon Scotland as other than a heart-warming country with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and one where I have spent many delightful holidays. The people we have met have been warm, friendly - everything you could ask people to be. I had never even heard of animosity between us - or at least not in recent history, although knowing what happened to Scotsmen at the hands of the English in the past, I can see why we are resented but, that was years ago. Scotland the brave it has always been and always will be in this household!

Really appreciate your comments Janscribe. I've spent happy holidays in Yorkshire, the Lake Distrct and the West Country where everyone was very friendly. Sadly, a small element of animosity in Anglo-Scottish relations does still exist, not helped, I fear, by the constant banging on about independence in certain quarters. Pity more folk don't heed the words of Robert Burns' who wrote "Let man to man the world o'er brothers be" in spite of all their differences.

It's the minority who spoil everything for the majority. We should all be proud of where we come from, without having to lord it over anyone.
It's rubbish .......
