Pat McEnroe calling it a breakthrough win. How is this a breakthrough win? He reached the finals of the USO, do people forget this?

It's very different. Back then he was young and an underdog, now he's most definately an established top 5 (would love to say 3) player. It's so different this time.

It's not a breakthrough win for his career but it could be seen as a breakthrough win for the last 12 months or so.

Murray was ranked 4th (non-officially) when he beat Nadal, he'd just won his first MS title, it was only like 17 months ago.

But it was still different, you're right, it's not exactly a breakthrough for his career as yet, but the this feels like a turning point, in the sense that, now it seems like he actually has a good chance everytime he plays Nadal to beat him, but before, although it has happened, it has never seemed like the odds were 50/50. They are just hamming it up calling it a breakthrough, but I do think it is poigniant.

It's a breakthrough at the AO, but that's about all. Beating Rafa in the semis of the US was definitely the "breakthrough" in most senses.
Love this bit from the press conference -

Q. When you talk with your team after a win like tonight, do you smile more? Do you have a voice which sounds more happy than now? Now you talk almost like you lost.
ANDY MURRAY: Have you ever sat in this seat before? I mean, last year I played 80 odd matches and we do a press conference after every single match. We do one before every tournament. More for other bits and pieces.
Q. It's very boring.
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I don't know (smiling). You just get used to doing it. I don't get excited about doing them anymore.
THE MODERATOR: That's lucky because this one's over.

Nadal King of Clay quit and did not face the music Murray played on him with great tunes!
Murray is a force and hopefully make Federer cry and quit!

So proud of Andy !!!! He played some amazing tennis , and he would have taken it even without Nadal retiring imo
I stayed up all night to watch, and Im still smiling
Why do these interviewers (at the press conferences) ask such dumb questions
