Am I right in thinking that if Murray had just taken one more game in the three matches, he would have gone through? Why can't he do it when it really matters? I don't think I can watch him anymore - it's too disappointing. What's worse is that Andy doesn't seem to care. Chances are he drops to number 5 this year. Will he still be in the top ten this time next year?!?
I'm sure Andy does care...and even if he does drop to No.5 then it's still top playing and all credit to him.
He may be a player that we alsways say 'what if' but he may achieve all that we believe he can.
Think of players like Tim (can't help but mention him) Roddick, Hewitt and countless others that have all had top notch careers (and continue to do so) but haven't maintained top spot or won a lot of GS.
The point of being a fan is that you stick with it and be pleased with what they do achieve

Are you sure that is after the match and not before?

Hmm, good question... can't be sure but BBC use it in their latest article, the caption below the photo says, "Federer went through despite his defeat to Del Potro".

It perhaps wouldn't have been exciting but the organisers have a lot to answer for. Who cares about drama and leaving Verdasco with a chance; Andy should have been the night match so he knew exactly what to do and we could avoid a situation like this. Fair or unfair, we have the home court advantage, let's use it! Everyone else does. Calling it a fix might be too strong but yeesh, that game at 3-4 for Federer. Woeful. He certainly didn't seem too concerned but, then again, why should he? Horrible way to go out. Murray could have done more but he did win 2 out of 3. Pretty gutted right now. Bizarre to say after such a solid season but I'm glad it's over. The last 6 months or so have just been a total grind.

Ah bummocks!
Do we have any body language experts about?
If that's his leaving photo, there's definitely something smuggish about his expression.

Oh well... new tennis season is just around the corner, the wait will go in no time as it's Christmas and we had to deal with a longer wait while Murray was getting his wrist better.
Hopman Cup, here we come!!!

Many of the folks here like Andy for more than his success, but for his artful playing style, strategy, assumed values, etc. , so hopefully there you will still stick around! As for the top 10, i think even his 'below-avg.' performances here prove that he is, barring injury, at the very least in that echelon.
He's just not playing the way he used to. You only see flashes of brilliance now, I remember at Queen's just before Wimbledon, I was just in awe of him throughout the entire match. I haven't been since.

Thanks to Doha points coming off and Auckland points staying on for AO seeding Del Potro only needs one more win to be seeded #4 at the AO.
If worse comes to the worse hopefully he gets drawn in Federer's quarter of the draw, only dodged him for the last 8 Slams, and he gets the chance to end his SF streak..

True but we've only been missing it since the first half of the year... I don't think it's anything to be worried about, he's just done the reverse of what Djokovic did in regards to form throughout the year.

Please Muzz, will you play less chess and more tennis? We know you're smarter and craftier than the rest, but stop being so stubborn, start listening and play less passive and more aggressive. You're far too good yourself to be waiting for the other guy to make the mistakes all the time - what if they don't make any, like with the 11 break points that nando refused to convert for you today? Had you gone for the kill in even a third of them, one of them would have been bound to have paid off and you'd be in the SFs on Saturday. If you want to get to where you haven't been before maybe you need to start doing what you haven't done before.

Federer - "It's unfortunate for Murray but they're the rules. One or two people might have had their calculators out, I wasn't one of them."

the final group games should be played simultaneously, like they usually are in soccer. Much fairer.
