You're all loons if you're suggesting Fed lost on purpose to get Andy out. Even if he would stoop that low, he would have had to be a mathematical genius. Are you aware of how tight it was? 50.5% games won for Andy, 51% for del Potro, 52.5% for Federer. Was he calculating his and del Potro's %s on a continuous game-by-game basis in his head, projecting possible third set outcomes and their associated percentages as he went along between the points? Was he so confident in his calculations that he opted to capitulate at 6-3 in the third - precisely the score required to see himself and del Potro through and put Andy out? does all this seem even remotely likely? He didn't throw away that service game - del Potro had a lucky net cord and then played some superb tennis to take it from him. Hard to believe it may be, but it's not ALL about Andy you know!

It wasn't a fix. I know it wasn't. Much too farfetched.
However, you're making it sound more complicated than it is. Most people on here knew the situation at every point in the match. You didn't need to get into calculating % to figure it out.

We know
We're just going to have fun and joke around about it being a fix for a while!

Clydey's right. All you had to realise was that a +6 advantage in games in this match to Del Potro would definitely see Andy out. Not that difficult!

Don't blame Federer...Murray lost to him when he shoould have won..Del Potro's a monster in size next to midget fragile Federer....Fed does enought to stay close to Del Potro....Murray is the muscle man of tennis but plays fragile and not power tennis..Federer is vulnerable to power tennis!

Where did you get this quote Mark? I only ask because I came across this quote on the Daily Mail's page
Afterwards Federer said: '
The thing important to me was winning the second set
. The rest you block out but you concentrate on winning the match as well because I don't want to lose to rivals. There's a lot of money and points on the line.
'It's incredible it got so close. It's hard for Murray.
At the net I asked Juan Martin "Did you make it or not?"
He said: "I don't think so".'

On reflection, I take back what I said last night, however I still think he is a shadow of his former self. I've realised he needs his fans to stand by him at this time. However I am by no means happy.

Am I right in thinking that if Murray had just taken one more game in the three matches, he would have gone through? Why can't he do it when it really matters? I don't think I can watch him anymore - it's too disappointing. What's worse is that Andy doesn't seem to care. Chances are he drops to number 5 this year. Will he still be in the top ten this time next year?!?
How can you possibly say he doesn't care - I'll bet he's gutted.
It all came down to one point, not one game. 0-40 on the Delpo service.
I've certainly never seen Fed serve so badly as he did in the next game. I will never, ever believe that someone as experienced as Fed did not know exactly what had to be done. Did he influence it ? I know what I believe.
The second in the group should play the first in the other, so Delpo should play Soderling and - having watched him on wednesday - I'm backing Robin. Never thought I'd say that but I hate Fed more and more and Soderling seems the best bet.
OK Andy - you had your chances and perhaps didn't take them - no denying that.
Have a good break and come back with a great 2010
....you may even get Shooting Star back on your side !
